Week 7 has a lot of top versus bottom match-ups. We could see a few teams effectively eliminated from the Spring title chase. #11 Miami is out with a tie or loss against #2 Carolina. #10 Jacksonville would be at least 9 points out (and maybe 11) with 4 games left if they lose against #3 Minnesota. #9 Ottawa is on a bye so they will drop farther back unless there are a lot of upsets. #8 Fort Lauderdale would be at least 7 points back if they lose to #3 Indy. #7 Rayo v. #6 Tampa Bay means the winner is still alive but the loser is in big trouble. #5 Edmonton really needs a home win against #1 Cosmos to stay in the race.
Reminder: Ottawa and Edmonton start Canadian Championship play on May 11 and then the return match is May 18.

Several top of the table match-ups this week with the entire top 6 facing each other. Things could get very interesting in the Spring race. #5 Indy v. #1 Minnesota - four places separate these teams but only 3 points. And both of these teams still have 4 games. An Indy win would really jam things up. #4 Edmonton v. #2 Carolina - a similar situation with only a 2 point gap except that these teams only have 3 games left. Edmonton could jump all the way to first with a win and some help. Carolina needs to keep pace with Minnesota and New York. #3 Cosmos v. #6 Tampa Bay - the Rowdies are another team with 4 games left but they are the road team in this match-up. They are pretty much out with a loss. The Cosmos have their bye on the final weekend so they need to build a lead. Bottom of the table: #7 Rayo v. #8 Fort Lauderdale - the loser here is out of it. And the winner is still in big trouble. #9 Ottawa v. #10 Jacksonville - both of these teams are playing for points in the Fall. They could both be eliminated this week.
Remaining games for the top 6: 1. MIN: @ind, TBY, @rok, MIA 2. CAR: @edm, BYE, JAX, @ind 3. COS: TBY, ROK, @ftl, BYE 4. EDM: CAR, @mia, BYE, FTL 5. IND: MIN, @jax, @mia, CAR 6. TBY: @cos, @min, OTT, @jax. Carolina and Tampa only have 1 home game left. The Rowdies have a very hard row to move up especially playing two other top teams on the road the next 2 weeks. The Cosmos and Edmonton have 2 of 3 at home. The Cosmos don't play anyone in the current top 5 the rest of the way. Minnesota is mostly playing lower teams after the Indy game this week. Indy plays two big dogs at home and two bottom dwellers on the road. The Eleven are going to have get more than draws to make a move. This weekend with all six playing each other could really separate things or really clump them up. Scoreboard watching should be fun especially with 2 of those games on Sunday.

Yeah... I see this coming down to the wire any loses by any team in the top 5 and you are on the outside looking in. Indy and the Loons control their own destiny if they can run the table. Every other club outside the top 5 may as well look forward to the Open Cup games and the Fall Season which will include PRFC.
Points still count toward the playoffs so teams are not going to blow off games just because they don't have much chance to win the Spring. If you miss the playoffs by a couple of points at the end of the year you could have gotten those points in the next couple of weeks just as much as in September or October.
Agreed...I absolutely understand the worth of playing hard. It worked for the Strikers last year but to me that puts even more pressure on the teams in the top 5 like Minnie and Indy. If you lose momentum and screw up the spring title run it could set a bad tone heading into the fall.
3 weeks to go in the Spring! Jacksonville and Miami are already eliminated from the Spring race. Rayo and Ottawa could go this week. It is another top of the league against the bottom this week. Current #1 Cosmos host #8 Rayo. New York needs to build up a lead. #2 Edmonton is at #11 Miami. Same thing as the Cosmos. The Eddies need points since they have a bye next week. #3 Minnesota hosts #7 Tampa Bay. This is United's highest ranking team left on the schedule. A win would put them in great shape. #4 Indy is at #10 Jacksonville. This is the first of two straight road games for the Eleven against the bottom of the league. They need wins, not ties. #5 Carolina is on a bye. They need losses or at least ties by the teams above them. Remaining games by the contenders: 1. COS: ROK, @ftl, BYE 2. EDM: @mia, BYE, FTL 3. MIN: TBY, @rok, MIA 4. IND: @jax, @mia, CAR 5. CAR: BYE, JAX, @ind Just one game left among the top five and that is at the very end.

Just 2 weeks left in the Spring season but it might be over soon than that. #1 Cosmos go to #7 Ft. Lauderdale in New York's final game. A win by the Cosmos and they clinch. Anything less than that and the door is open for Indy. #2 Indy is at #10 Miami FC. The Eleven let a valuable 2 points slip away last week but they are still alive as long as NY doesn't win. A road win is required, however. Indy has taken over the goal difference lead against the Eddies and Loons (and they are unlikely to end up in a tie against the Cosmos) so the margin of difference shouldn't be a big factor. #3 Edmonton is on a bye and they have already been eliminated from the Spring title chase. #4 Minnesota travels to #8 Rayo OKC. They are pretty much out if the Cosmos get a draw and anything less than a win by the Loons will also do it. #5 Carolina hosts #11 Jacksonville. The RailHawks are the highest ranked team at home but they are in the same boat as Minnesota. #6 Tampa Bay and #7 Ft. Lauderdale are only mathematically alive. It should be an exciting Saturday night.
