The 2015 Spring schedule is out. It runs from April 4 to June 13. Teams will only play 10 games. That is every other team once. With 11 teams that means 5 games each weekend and one team will have a bye. http://www.nasl.com/article/uuid/1j...ing-season-fixture-list-revealed#.VJHV7CvF98M The article also says that the playoff format will be the same as last year with the Spring winner automatically being a 1 or 2 seed.
So if LA comes in for the second "half," then it's (presumably) a 22-game fall campaign for a total of 32 games. If not, I guess they do double-round robin for the fall and it's 20 games. Which makes the break between seasons - not driven by standing down for the World Cup, and not forcing the first "half" to be shoehorned in before the start of FIFA's party - arbitrary and only slightly less ridiculous than the 9-game/18-game split last year. (At least everybody would have equal numbers of home games in each half under this scenario.)
Not overly impressed. With the Spring season operating under a home OR away format, I expected reversal of fixtures each season. For example - if in 2014, Team A played host to Team B, then in 2015, Team A should visit Team B. Sadly that isnt the case as show in this table: Lets take the Atlanta/Carolina series. In 2014 and 2015, they would have played in Atlanta twice, but in Carolina 4 times. Its only a minor thing, but just something that I am not too impressed with.
It stuns me that anyone defended the Bill Peterson hiring. This league, like their hack job criminal commissioner, is a joke when it comes to any kind of business practice. It's a shame as I'd love for the NASL to succeed and be around for decades.
I'm not a fan of Wild Bill but I have no doubt the BOD is supporting the commisoner on this and they are likely doing this out of necessity. There's been alot of rumors regarding expansions and this schedule would support this theory.
So everyone's ready to have another craptastic format shoved down their throats again this year? It comes with new and improved ways to screw over your team as well! There's the already commented fact that the league paid absolutely no attention to the fixtures in last year's spring "1/3" season when creating this year's "1/3" or possibly "6/19" "season." We are once again forced to play away twice at Tampa, while they only come to Lockhart once, just like last year. As someone else pointed out the Carolina/Silverbacks matchups are the same, and I'm sure they're not the only ones. We travel to Edmonton an extra time again this year. Somehow Davidson and his sock puppet have made the schedule even more unbalanced than last year's cluster-%$#@. And someone remind me, why is it we need this break and unbalanced format again this year? FIFA has made the impromptu decision to go ahead and have the World Cup again this year, that we'd of course need to break for, being the "international" and "not division 2" league that we are? Only one lesson to take away from this - never, ever underestimate the capacity of human beings to show they are capable of being dumber and dumber all of the time.
They want to squeeze the LA team in for the Fall if the rumors are correct. Albeit stupid, that would be the only real reason to continue the split season format, other than the fact that it was so popular last year leading to massive attendance gains!
It always comes with this metaphor. It's sports. It's entertainment. That's all it is. Your team made the final this season. You should lighten up sometimes. Sports is not a grudge-********, it really isn't. People aren't actively coming up with ways to make you feel bad about being a fan of something. You do that. And you can decide not to.
You can also decide not to be a know-it-all, I'm-compensating-for-something crotchety old turd all the time too. We all have decisions to make in life.
