Looks like France is going to try to fix the Chase. Why not just scrap it? Go back to the old system.

Don't forget the first year of the Chase when Gordon would have won on traditional scoring. Someone Sunday said it well at the end of season party I went to. "Gordon, Johnson are damn good drivers, Busch pretty good, and Vickers well, he's Vickers in Cup at least. Problem with them all is they drive for a lowdown piece of shit for a person and it makes it impossible for me to like anything associated with his organization." While a Gordon fan myself I have no allegiance to Hendrick. Period.
I have no problem with a different winner in traditional v chase, that's the design - but when a guy out of the chase can beat over half of the chase guys, you've got issues. To me, the chase has created more conservative endings to the season, meaning more boring. But the TV guys seem to like it. I always liked that NASCAR rewarded consistency over an entire season instead of just mediocrity until a big push at the end, like football.
Agreed. I have been attending the Fall race in Richmond for the last 15 years. I have decided not to attend the Fall 2007 race due to the fact that it has been absolutely terrible ever since the Chase started. I'll gladly go to the May race since the Boyz will actually still race at that one. I did get tickets for Martinsville in the Spring instead. That should be fun.
If it isn't a DC United weekend, we may join you , Atouk and Carolinab were talking about going as well.
The race never sells out so getting tickets is no big deal. We've got a group of 4 heading down now and would love to add to it. In all seriousness, let me know what you guys are thinking as we get closer and we'll make plans for sure. Race is scheduled for 1 April (no joke, ha ha) and that could conflict with a Saturday or Sunday season opener if it's at home. We'll see in a few months what transpires.
Goodbye old friend. And hello to a new life possibly? Resurrecting this thread as a result of North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham (better known as "The Rock") was sold at auction today. Transfered in a legal settlement for $100 million in 2004, tax value of $30 million at present, sold for $4 million this afternoon to Andy Hillenburg. Thankfully I was able to catch one race there a few years before it lost it's Cup races. Really did enjoy that place. Would be cool to go to his driving school and turn some laps down there.
Thast track represents what has gone wrong with NASCAR. It was disgraceful to watch that track be bought for the sole purpose of stealing its race dates. I never did figure out why they didn't convince the truck series to run there, just to pretend they cared about the local jobs the track supported. It would be nice to see cars racing on it again, I wish Andy all the best.
I love The Rock. It's got character, history, everything except a location the media likes. For it to lose out to Fontana, which is nothing more than a copy of Michigan (which itself is a boring, boring track) plopped in Metro LA is disgusting. I look forward to the Hooters Pro Cup racing at Rockingham.
Anyone been watching the Nextel cup this year? There only 6 more races left with the next one being this Saturday at Charlotte. Here the standings so far: http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/standings?seriesId=2 I think I'm pulling for Kurt Busch in the next few weeks. His Dodge is running well and he finished 7th last week at Talladega. A good finish this weekend should score him a few points against Gordon.
It's hard to root for Kurt Busch, he's such a douchebag. My (diminishing) hopes for someone to beat a Hendrick car is still Tony Stewart, I have almost given up on Denny Hamlin, and have on Jeff Burton
What's wrong with Kurt Busch! He's run great this year, and he's sure to race well next year. His car has been awesome, but he was unlucky last week. Hendricks did pretty well last week with Kyle and Jeff.... and Jeff is the obvious favorite at Martinsville this weekend.
