Caglari is saved from relegation. The scudetto is in Napoli's hands. Como plays Inter at home and Napoli plays Cagliari at home. If Napoli blows this, it is their own fault.
Como beating Inter and us losing with Conte suspended, but still getting the league would be the most poetic way to end this two year stretch. Then Conte and Osi go to Juve, Merit to Inter, Anguissa and Lobotka to Liverpool, DiLo to retirement...
A couple of weeks ago on OCW they had a debate on if Napoli were to win the scudetto, we might be the worst team to ever win it. After today I’m inclined to agree.
Dumb take. this season has been one of the most competitive seasons the league has ever been in a long time. The last time the league was this exciting to watch was back in 2010 and Conte’s first year at Juve since they managed to go the whole season undefeated. Last season we had our worst season in years with almost the same exact team that won the league. This year the goal was top 4 at least that was my expectation. If anyone would have told me we would be dueling Inter till the very last match day I would have laughed it off. Do we benefit from only having to focus on one competition? Sure but look at the injures and the sale of Kavra! You name any other team that would be in our position with the sales and player injuries we had this season..
If we had European games this year, there’s no way we’d fighting for this title till the last day. We’ve been very fortunate. Our path in the final games has also been easier. We couldn’t put away Genoa and Parma. The football has been atrocious. I think we are worse than the Milan team that won it a couple of years ago
There is no question about us being possibly the worst Scudetto winner of all time. This is a season where no one deserves it, maybe Atalanta because of the story behind, but Napoli and Inter not only play some of the most dead beat uninspiring shit football they are also managing to choke a bunch of "easy points". I think at the start of the season Napoli actually looked like a proper Scudetto team wracking in a ton of points, managing to take 3 points against the smaller sides while being competitive too in the big games. It was a first half season of dirty but secure wins with solidity at the back and venomous in transitions were key factors. After the winter break though we have looked very mid, and what looks like extreme external luck means we might end matchday 38 as top of the table. I dont know how Conte's contract works, but if some competitor had to buy out the contract, it might be a win win for all parts. Napoli get paid and Conte will have his way. Im not worried of Conte as competition. I honestly think any decent Napoli side from the last 10 years (sarri and Spalleti maybe even ancelotti) would have beaten this version of Antonio Conte, I think he is extremely lucky to find himself in this situation and that it wont happen again unless seasons like these (without top teams) repeat themselves. I know he has won 4 out of 5 scudettos soon, but 3 of them happened in a time where a lot of teams didnt know how to defend with the ball or dare I say before VAR. He lacks plans in terms of making his team score goals, I feel like thats a necessity with the way football has evolved. At Napoli his attacking plan is to play to McTominay's strengths - a very simplistic and almost outdated approach. Here's the thing, first of all not every team has a McTominay. Also top attacking players dont like being lowered in the hierarchy to change their playstyle to cator to one teammate unless that teammate is at a different level to them. Example being Kvara not liking being moved from the main player playing behind lukaku to becoming almost an extra left back because of McTominay's arrival, which altered Kvara's job description to something less attractive to him. If Conte goes to Juve and builds a team around Osimhen he will quickly realise that Osimhen is unlike any striker he has ever worked with. Osimhen cannot to save his life hold up play to the levels of Lukaku or Diego Costa. It's going to have to be a different nut to crack for Conte, I'm sure he'll manage to be secure at the back, but I wonder how his New Juve team will look going forward. It might very well look like a more consistent version of Motta's Juve. I even wonder if players like Yildiz will ask to leave after 6 months lol
inter are cl finalists so they technically deserve it. Napoli wouldn't progress against bayern or barca.
Thats why i said us only having the league to worry about benefited us but you also have to look at the season as a whole. We have had major injuries and perhaps if we didnt have to move away from the 4-3-3 we would of gotten more points. There is always some lucky breaks that allows a team to win the league... Inter winning the league many times in a row after Calciopoli do their league titles not matter because the rest of the teams in Serie A couldn't get their acts together ? Some good fortune always comes into play...
