Napoli invade the Stadio Mario Rigamonti for the posticipo of Giornata 38 on Sunday, May 13 at 3pm local time to take on a Brescia team with playoff aspirations. Napoli come in to the match needing at least a draw, and more likely a victory after last week's heartbreak against Mantova. Napoli are now chasing Genoa for second place. However, the Azzurri come to the match thin and wounded. On the injury front, although DOmizzi's injury wasn't as bad as it first appeared, he's almost certain to miss this match. Bogliacino, who has bailed Napoli out of so many messes this year, is out with a knee injury. Sosa and Montervino were scheduled to have their medical results by Tuesday, May 8 and are considered at least questionable for the match. Meanwhile, Ruben Maldonado is out due to his red-card against Mantova and Dalla Bona is out with yellow card accumulations. Reja has the unenviable task of fielding a capable team and needing that team to gain a valuable result on the road. Napoli will regroup at Castelvolturno on Tuesday. It's likely that players such as Rullo, Garics, Amodio and, the recently out-of-favor Roberto De Zerbi will make their way to either the starting XI or a spot on the bench. New Brescia coach, Serse Cosmi, has the Biancoazzurri playing spirited ball. He had a tremendous debut defeating Juventus 3-1 at home. Cosmi, who has a voice like sand and glue, appears to be an old throwback . Brescia has perhaps the most culturally diverse Serie B squad. Major international contributors include outstanding young midfielder Marek Hamsik (Slovakia), defenders Marius Stankevicius (Lithuania) and Victor Mareco (Paraguay) to name a few. Brescia's attack is led by Davide Possanzini who looks like he has a lot more mileage than his 1976 birthday would indicate. Possanzini leads the squad with 10 goals (1pk) and the aforementioned Hamsyk with 9 goals (5pk's). Hamsyk is particularly dangerous on corners and free kicks. He maintains possession well and is deadly accurate on crosses into the box. Hamsyk has drawn considerable interest from inside and outside Italy. last five matches Brescia (W-W-L-L-W) scored 6 allowed 4 Napoli (W-W-W-W-L) scored 8 allowed 2 Brescia home record: 9-7-2 20 scored allowed 12 Napoli road record: 7-6-5 20 scored allowed 16 Links: Brescia official site - www.bresciaonline.it Radio - http://www.sscnapoli.it/client/radiokisskiss/radiokisskiss.html TV - Not sure if game will be shown on RAI Forza Napoli!
It's not just about what we do ... It's about what Genoa, Mantova, Rimini, Piacienza, and Bologna do. If we can win one more and Mantova and Rimini lose, just to get us 10 points above.
I just hope we don't lose. I can't begin to think of what Reja will put out there. I'd be ecstatic with a win. It's not impossible. We might score early and go into a defensive shell and let Iezzo work miracles.
They seem to have hit a brick wall at 300mph, I will be happy at scoring a goal! Having said that, the record against the former Serie A sides has been good and the away form has overall been good but i am not holding my breath
5 games left and we couldn't be in a more unfortunate situation. I have no idea what formation Reja is going to dream up, but we cannot afford to lose any points at this moment. Brescia play well, and they got Hamsyk who could be seeing his way to the premiership (that's if any serie A squad have the brains to sign him) Last time we met : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGzkdxcOYAc
The official napoli site says reja used to coach Brescia in 95/96 and led them to serie A? that really seems a shock. i have heard nothing about formations but i swear de zerbi better be in the starting XI. i don't care if he got reja's daughter pregnant, he needs to be there.
Dalla Bona, Bogliacino and Maldonado are all suspended for the Brescia match. Punishment came down today from Lega Calcio. Daniele Mannini from Brescia will also miss the game. He's played in 34 games this year for them so at least they will be a little depleted. I realize I'm grasping at straws here.
Bogliacino is injured so I knew he wouldn't play .. .but DallaBona out too sucks. I can't wait to see what Reja's gonna do.
last week I would have been happy with a tie, that was the game Napoli should have at least tied. this time around they need a win. it will be really hard but a loss or tie doesnt cut it. De Zerbi needs to play pissed off and show Reja what he is made of. Caliao needs to score as well, he has been cold of late.
Rosetti has been named the ref for this match He has seemed, from the matches I've seen, to be an impartial ref. I guess he also was a ref in WC 02 (Mexico-Iran).
THE GAME IS OFF GUYS http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/may11i.html To stop the Napoli fans rampaging through Brescia
What crap, just because Napoli has decent traveling support they have to change the game time. Oh well this may be a blessing in disguise. Maybe Domizzi, Bogliacino, Sosa and Montervino will be available now, or at one or two of them.
hmmmmmm http://napoli2000.etereanetwork.com/news.asp?ID=6570 says the game is delayed until Tuesday, May 15 at 6pm local time.
Che cacada! LOL “There have also been several threats between the two sets of fans over the internet(bigsoccer) during the week. This is why this tie is rated as a ‘risk three’.
Brescia-Napoli game postponed to Tuesday 15 May at 6 pm Brescia-Napoli game postponed to Tuesday 15 May at 6 pm The Azzurri’s trip to the Stadio Rigamonti has been called off by the National Observatory for public order reasons. The Second Division clash was set to be played on Sunday afternoon at 15:00 local time, but will now be played on another day as it is deemed a high risk event. The news has been confirmed by Brescia’s police prefect Francesco Paolo Tronca, who explained the reasons behind the decision. “We opted to move the match to a working day after the Observatory’s report, which highlighted the high risks connected to this game,” he noted. Naples police official Antonio De Iesu, interviewed by Radio Marte, added: “Brescia-Napoli is a dangerous tie, considering the incidents which took place after their first game this term. “There have also been several threats between the two sets of fans over the internet during the week. This is why this tie is rated as a ‘risk three’. “The match will be played on Tuesday at 18:00, a time and day that should prevent many Napoli fans from travelling to Brescia.”
Wow... who knows, maybe it's a good thing. Like Mookhead said, we have more time to get our players into shape. More time to train. I guess I'm going to have to call off anything I had going on for Tuesday morning. Any word on possible formations??
nothing has popped up about possible formations. wouldn't mind seeing this: iezzo; cannavaro, garics, savini; amodio, gatti, trotta, rullo; de zerbi, sosa, pia...calaio, guibiato, trotta, capparella on the bench. gotta say that if this delay helps anyone recover then that's fine, but i can't help but be ticked about it. i'm not sure if madder at brescia police for not being prepared to escort our fans safely from the buses and the train station, our fans for imposing a threat (whether intentional or not) or the brescia societa for maybe not addressing their own house after raciti's death. not being there makes it difficult to read who shoulders most of the blame.
Juventus is down by 1 against Bologna and we need Juve to win. It's on RAI if anyone wants to watch our serie A hopes in danger.
If Bologna tie it won't make much difference. We'll still be 9 points ahead with a game to go. The real game right now is Rimini- Bari. Bari is up a goal with 20 minutes to go. If Rimini win they'll only be a 5 point difference between us. I'm also hoping for a miracle in the Modena-Mantova game which is on at 2:30PM eastern time.
