Naperville Sucks:Countdown to Soldier Field Wholeheartedly agree. Cannot wait to get back to Soldier Field. I had to miss my first home game EVER because of the travel time to Naperville on a workday. Fortunately, we quickly signed up for the Shootout package. The silence was noticeable in the second half ... now I know why.
Shootout Package and Soldier Field How is that Shootout Package? Cost and # of games??? The outside of SF looks like futuristic toilet bowl, I am so disappointed. How is the new Home Depot Center in LA? I haven't seen a match showing it yet. About time we get some soccer specific stadiums. GO FIRE!!!
Actually in the old sf section 8 was in the southeast corner, in the new one it will be directly behind south goal.
Well, not only that, but based on what I know, it will be the entirety of the south goal area, because the sections are considerably shorter than both the old SF and Cardinal.
I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon and say that even though the Fire made the best out of a bad situtation, playing at NCC sucks ass. I can't wait for the return to the city and all the lunacy that will follow. Tailgaiting, Beer in the stadium, and hopefully more chili cook offs.
MMMMM Drinking beer while watching the Fire light up the rest of the league. It will be like the day prohibition was lifted.
My travel time is going to suck to SF now that I moved to 15th and State. (F.Y.I. New Bar at Wabash and Roosevelt appropriately named "Wabash Tap", shall I offer an olive branch in the form of a Fire Scarf?) Soldier Field!!
For me, this will be 2 steps forward, 1 step back, net positive. Good,.. + Soldier Field is much closer to home. + It's nice to drink a beer at the game. + Grass field. + Section 8 was bigger and louder at Soldier Field But, - 15k in Soldier Field did not have as good an overall atmosphere as 15k in Cardinal. Section 8 may have been larger and sang louder, but it never filled the stadium as much. I also get depressed by 50k empty seats.
I think that maybe, with the new way SF is gonna be set up, that crowds are going to look better, with the sections being smaller.
Naperville may suck to you guys but the crowd we got on a rainy Wednesday night 11,728 was pretty good. If that game took place at NSF or SF we would not have come close to that number (maybe 7,000).
Which games are definitely going to be at Soldier Field so I can add them to my calendar? One positive about the renovation - they reduced capacity so even if the average crowd is the same as it always was there, they'll be fewer empty seats and higher percentage occupancy. The old venue's sightlines were built for track-and-field events, while this one will be geared to team sports played on a field. Wider seats, better leg room. I think it's a huge positive. I don't think I missed more than five or six games in the 2000-2001 seasons at Soldier Field (and always brought at least one other person, sometimes up to a dozen). I've been to two games at Naperville and not sure I'll make it to another.
While some wednesday night crowds at SF were crap, you can hardly make that statement definitive. Plus, with the renovation, there are covered seats, which makes a big difference, as well as overall less weeknight matches since 2001 and prior.
All the october games friday 10/10, saturday 10/18 and probably wednesday 10/15 allthough that last one isn't definite yet.
I'm definitely there for 10/10, even if I end up going to the WWC Final. As for the others, I'm going to see Michigan vs. Illinois football on 10/18, and if 10/15 is at Soldier Field, I'll probably be there. Will the Fire play their playoff games at Soldier Field (if there are any)?
Yup. Both of them. And after we destroy Metro in the Battle of Burnham Harbor semifinal, you will be flying to LA to see us crush the Earthquakes in front of 1000 Chicago fans, 1000 SJ fans, and 25,000 weeping Los Angelenos.
