I've been having a discussion with a fellow Man Utd fan regarding Nani's current status in the world game. They mentioned that Nani was the most unplayable winger in world football. Personally, I think on his day he is a fantastic player, and underrated by many in the media, but was interested in what non Man Utd\Portugese football fans thought about him as a player and where he stands against other wingers......is he currently the best winger in the world?....is he the most unplayable player in that area of the field?

    Nice thread Karl. :D

As I stated previously, I agree with the sentiment he's unplayable, when he's on form and feeling comfortable and confident. But when he's off, watch out. It can get ugly, as he just loses his mind trying to "fix" by forcing what isn't working.

It's the inconsistency which he still struggles with, and it's been that way for awhile now.

Yeah, in my humble opinion I think he is probably top ten if you include wingers and wing forwards, and could probably cement a top 5 if he could improve consistency, but then I guess it may be easy to over hype players from your own team....which is why I was hoping for some thoughts by non Man Utd\Portugese fans. I guess if the thread isn't about Messi or Ronaldo no one really cares.:p

You;re right .. most players right now are more like "wide forwards" rather than traditional winger ... only a few names are close to that label "winger" in Navas, Ashley Young, and Milner. Even Nani is more like a left forward or right. (his attacking is much better than his thorough on the flank)

I would list him among but below the top wide forwards with CR7, Riberry, Robben, arguably David Silva Di Maria, and better than Nasri , Valencia, Ben harfa, Young, Walcott...

Not unplayable, bu certainly not the best or even in the top 10. I actually think that he is behind Valencia

I do not think he is that good. Certainly not the worst, but I wouldn't rank him in the top 3 or top 5.

Di Maria reminds me of him, very hit and miss.

He's got the talent and when it all works he is excellent, but he's so inconsistant and he makes lots of bad decisions. I would rate him as possibly top 10 winger in the Premiership, but no higher.

What wingers performed at a higher level than him in the recent Euros? Valencia while good at what he does is a bit of a one trick (and footed pony) if it works it works well.
