Well we all know already that there are plans for a pub on the site of our ground in Bridgeview. I'm hoping that it will be a traditional English/Irish pub like the one at Blackbaud. I think since we are volleying around all sorts of ideas on the boards, what do you all think is a good name for the pub? I had THE COW AND LANTERN in mind. Imagine this on the pub sign swinging over the door in the breeze. What are your ideas? Late one night, when we were all in bed, Mrs. O'Leary lit a lantern in the shed. Her cow kicked it over, Then winked her eye and said, "There'll be a hot time in the old town tonight!" (We really ought to convert this into a club chant)
Previously mentioned - Hook and Ladder Also for anglophiles: - Wellie's has an easy ring to it. (a common term for firefighter boots) - http://www.wellie-boots.com/usmofcart/firefighter.html a bit more militant: Shield Room ?? Trophy Room ?? my personal favorite: Hoser's ??
Amen to that! I've always wondered why Sec 8 hasn't picked up this old tavern song. Can you imagine a stadium full of people singing it at the top of their lungs - I can! ...but you forgot the refrain: FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!
Isn't there already a Hook and Ladder on North Halsted? At least that is where I would expect a bar of that name.
The Hook and Ladder doesn't sound that, um...Halstedy (?) to me. The Pumping Station on the other hand... Other ideas - DeKoven's - Reds (or Red Square) - Eighteen Seventy One - Burnt Bridges - The Last Alarm - Eat at Pete's - The Pasadena - Ninety-ninth Minute - Free Beer Tommorrow - Dallas Sucks
Well I just hope we can decide on something better than what probably will turn out to have a generic name like the FIRE STADIUM CLUB or LASALLE BANK PUB. I still like my choice THE COW AND LANTERN I found some examples: Here is a research site with more ideas http://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/pubsigns/index.html
hmm - that would never do. I don't think I want to drink at a place called "Daisy's". ********** - who'm I kidding. Okay, I'd drink there.
how soon we forget and before you ask, that's exactly why "99th Minute" would be cool. People would ask 'why 99?' and you can tell them all about the 1998 season. it's perfect bar conversation.
I don't think they will sell naming rights to the bar. I mean, maybe the stadium club itself will have a sponsor but I don't know if it'd be cool to call a place "The Honda Stadium Club" if you're just going there for a beer and a burger. At the same time it shouldn't be ridiculously pretentious either.
Fun Fact: Texas A&M took that little diddy and turned it into "Hot Time in Austin." Late one night when the teasips were in bed, Ol Sul Ross put a lantern in the shed. The Aggie kicked it over, he winked, and then he said, "There'll be a hot time in Austin tonight!" Or SOMETHING like that. (Few people seem to know for sure lol)
