How about: Not So Fast Stadium, or Hold It Right There Arena, or Premature Park See http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...02/14/AR2008021401819.html?hpid=moreheadlines for details.
The new stadium should be called "The black eagles" stadium. The eagle as the D.C.U mascot and..Well , You should be able to get the rest.
Totally agree or: The House That Kevin Built, Marco's field, or just plainly DC United's Cavalcade of Fun and Horror.
Well, that's one of the big issues that would have to be ironed out. Specifically, most new stadium deals tend to give the naming rights to the teams and allow them to pocket the revenue from selling the naming rights. If DCU is not given the naming rights, that would probably be one of those things that pushes them to Maryland.
Poplar Point Terminus -"All Winning Streaks End Here" Linda Moulton-Howe Stadium - "Cattle Mutilations."
Estadio El Diablo. Paint it black. Seriously though, I would love to see an Etcheverry statue out front a la Eusebio at Benfica's home ground. The stadium will of course be some typical sh!tass Insert-Corporate-Whore-Name-Here Field... at Poplar Point.
I dunno. If we are gonna have a statue of anyone, I'd rather see it be Jaime -- he'll be retired by the time the stadium is built -- over El Diabo due to the length of tenure and the goals record. Moreno has been on DCU for every single trophy they have won to date, no?
Okay, but we are talking about the DC United stadium. So, a statue would have to reflect contributions to DC United specifically, not as a reward for overall soccer career (IMHO). Not that El Diablo wouldn't be a fine representative for DCU. I just think that Jaime would be a better choice considering their relative contributions to DCU over the years.
A name that involves a corporate ad is necessarily subject to change. I would be happy with practically any name, as long as it had eternal staying power. A nickname might endure best; something simple that would be impervious to the inevitable stadium name-changery that seems to defeat the very purpose of naming rights. "The Point," "The Crossroads," "The ____." Poplar Point would work well in that regard, since we're all already saying it. I just don't want to have to re-calibrate every four years.
