Which team below do you recognize by name most among them all. If you are Brazilian DO NOTtake this poll.

Reason: A Brazilian claims his team is the Brazilian team most recognized around the world...I have my doubts and you can prove it. Ill tell you what team that was at the end of the poll.

    THANKS

Corinthians were the first ones i had ever heard of dont know why or how they just were.

    Proberbly because of champ man.

Sao Paulo are my Brazilian team of choice now because they were showen most often in channel fours coverage on the national championships and palyed some good stuff.

It's hard to say which one I recognize the most. If someone asked me to name a Brazilian club, I would probably mention Vasco or Flamengo, but maybe Santos or Corinthians as well.

The club I recognize the least? Internacional, followed by Sao Paulo.

Whenever I think of a Brazilian team I think of Vasco for some reason.

Santos is the most recognizable to me, because they were Pele's team. Vasco would have been my next choice. Corinthians is the coolest name, tho.

If you really want to know this you shouldn't make a poll about it but just ask.

I recognize all names in the poll, I think almost everybody does.

The first Brazilian team I knew of was Fluminense. They played in Amsterdam a couple of times in the eighties and early nineties.

I have to go with Vasco, since they were dominant in the first soccer video game I played that featured club teams. EA Sports FIFA '95 for Sega Genesis.

Corinthians took their name from an English club side which toured South America in 1897. I believe they were an amateur side which placed great emphasis on the sporting aspects of the game (hence the phrase 'Corinthian Ideals') - if they were awarded a penalty they would always deliberately miss. Sadly I don't think they exist any more.

Didn't know. Thanks for the info. The name (to me) suggested epic Biblical battle stuff. You know- lions, Christians, Romans, torches, swords and shields, chariots, ritual sacrifice- that sort of thing...

I've heard managers say "PKs are killing us", but I guess it can happen for real... :)

Flamengo of course. Zico's club. I'm surprised they were so low in the poll here.

Corinithians because I can still picture Ricardo Montalban pitching cars with "rich Corinithian leather".

Ah, yes. The Chrysler Cordoba. At the time, I actually thought the gold coin on the side was kinda cool. "Finnnne Corinnnthiannn leatherrrrrr....." Whatever. How many naugas met their doom for the sake of those roofs?

Christ, cars have come a long way...

For me, it was Santos. that's the first Brazilian club I know of when I was a kid. Flamengo was probably second because I started to follow soccer when Zico was the best player.

Out of curiosity who did your fiend think was mosr recongnisable?

Personally i would say Flamengo. The name always reminded me of flamingos when I was little. But its dificult because al the names are easily recognisable.

Oh yes, the guy is a Flamengo fan and was bragging that Flamengo is Brazil's most recognizable club in the world. I didnt think so and this poll seems to indicate I was right, at least here on BS.

Flamengo has arguably the biggest fanbase in Brazil because besides sharing part of the fans in Rio de Janeiro with Vasco, Fluminense and Botafogo for some reason they have a huge following in the northern part of Brazil as where other Brazilian clubs do not.

For the curious, Flamengo and Botafogo are actually names of neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro and both have lovely beaches just a mile or so aprt from each other. As you can see in the photo I took in Rio last month.

Botafogo is the sandy beach on the left and Flamengo is the sandy beach on the right. Both are in the city of Rio de Janeiro. This shot was taken from Sugar Loaf (Pao de Acucar) mountain.
