Just my two cents but as a big soccer fan living here in Canada (Toronto) what I really think the CSA needs to do is fire Frank Yallop and hire a Latin coach. I mean Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, or even South American. Not a Canadian, bring in some other influence and let him change the system and even the players selected, etc. I think that is the best thing that could be done at this point. any comments?

What's wrong with Frank? Our NT did very well against USA and Costa Rica.

Yeah thats the problem well means only allowing 4 gaols and scoring only two? I dont think so canada has everything to be very competitive but yeah most of it is the CSA fault

I think the administration is the problem not the coach. Its a shame that you can't even watch half the Canada game on TV. Plus because the media doesn't cover football so well in this country the CSA should be putting in extra effort to make sure their website allows fans of the national team to follow the players. I mean go to their website and click on players, and it has a story about a goal scored ten months ago, and encourages people to buy tickets to a game that happened nine months ago. Plus there is the game out here in Vancouver which seemed like it was put on for the visiting nations supporters and not for Canadian Fans. I mean why was their no Canada Merchandise , why was Honduran music played all night to jazz up the other teams fans.

Look at those two games just announced, still no word about it on the CSA website.

exactly what i say we need to do what countrues like japan and korea did to help revamp their national teams (othet than host the 2002 WC) which is to bring in a coach from another country i would actually prefer a brazillian coach (but any of the other countries listed would do fine as well) simply because brazil has a good reputation for creating playmakers and thats what canada really seemed to lack at the gold cup, considering the fact that allowing only 4 goals in 3 games is actually not that bad it was just the execution and our passing that really slowed our offence down.

Honestly, I don't blame Yallop that much. We should have moved on the next round in WCQ if it wasn't for some atrocious refereeing in both Honduras games. I believe he's done the best he can with the players he has avaliable, and he came out with good results with his experimental squad in the gold cup. I hated Osiek, but I really don't mind Yallop. That's just me.

I agree that Canada would benefit from hiring a top notch coach, but the only problem is $$$$$....Do you think the CSA would actually dish out the cash for it? I think yallop alright. I was thinking....has Dick Howard ever had a stint at coaching the team? If not why not give him a shot?

ya there is no doubt that it will cost alot of money however you need to spend money to make money i mean if we could get a coach like japan did when they got zico and prove to the public that our team is for real im sure that the team would get great support from canadians from coast to coast to coast and they would get their money back and then some, also you never know each year the concacaf race for WC qualification always has 1.5 spots that realistically anybody can (the usa and mexico will pretty much always have the first 2) win so with a bit of luck maybe WC 2010 or 2014

C'mon people, thats exactly what we had with Osieck, and it really didn't work, because on the world stage we are mickey mouse. You don't bring in a world class manager to coach 3rd divison players.

The fact that Canada doesn't even have one football stadium speaks volumes about the importance of the sport at the professional level in the country.

I like your idea of bringing in a coach, just look at what Hiddink did for korea. Now i know we arent as good as korea but if bring in a foreign coach, i think we could benefit by using his tatical expertise.

Some of these posts are very simplistic smacking of the usual Euro snobbery. We had a World Cup winning European coach (assisted Beckenbauer) and what did it do. He was more effective as a Technical Director (developing young players) than as a coach where he alienated the players to the point of revolt.

If you guys think a foreign coach is the answer how about we offer big bucks to a guy who has excelled wherever he has coached and improved his national team steadily until they are now top ten in the world - Bruce Arena.

By the way we beat Korea in the Gold Cup the last time we played in 2002.

So we had Holger Olsiek and IT DID WORK, we won the Gold Cup and were in the final phase of World Cup qualifying and definitely had our most success in recent times while Olsiek was the coach. I was never a big fan of Olsiek either, but he definitely did help out and I think a new 'offensive' minded coach from Europe or South America would change things around. We have some talent now. Simpson, Peters, and Hume all look great and if we work them in with Stalteri, Radzinski, and De Guzman we will have something to work with.

Yallop did just as good (or bad, depending on your perspective) as Holger did in WCQ. Both failed to get us to the Hex. The difference was that Holger had heightened our expectations because we won the Gold Cup.

Although a good coach may help, he can only do so much with the players he is given. Right now Canada's pool of players are mainly from the USL. No offense to the USL, but how do we expect our Canadian boys to develop or thrive in the USL when all of the highly skilled players leave to play in Europe or the MLS? What Canada really needs is a Canadian team in the MLS.

good point but in the games that i saw in the gold cup the problem really was our poor execution which is what a good coach would really bring to the canadian national team
