I believe with a nickname like "the little fish" the masses have greatly underestimated how powerful this man is. He must be strong as hell, because he has pushed every defender in MLS around like school yard bully! If you look at his stature alone it gives it away... 5' 9" 170lbs. He' basically 4-5 inches shorter than say McBride and weighs the same. This guy is stout! In one of his recent goal celebrations he pulled off his shirt and I was suprised how bulky he was. All I can say is MLS defenders had better hit the weight room or expect more of the same.

....which only makes it all the more irritating that he flops to the ground if a strong breeze comes by.

    Sick of him

I'm flat out sick of him. He is the one player in this league that I can't stand. People talk about what a great player he is. All I see is a guy with decent skills who gives out cheap shots and dives all game long. If referees issued yellows for diving like they're supposed to, Ruiz would be kicked out of every game after only 15 minutes.

I hate the fact that the league markets him so much. My sons will soon be at the age where they watch the games and be able to learn from these players, and I don't want them seeing diving as a rewarded skill.

I couldn't figure out his MVP vote, either. Twellman didn't have a central midfield behind him at all last year. The cherry picker in LA had a host of talented teammates to help him.

Defenders don't knock him down because they know the refs believe his crying crap. Personally, I hope the league sells him off somewhere.

    Sorry about the rant.

I don't like Ruiz but he definitley deserved the vote. He single handedly helped his team with over 10 game winning or tieing goals..and Twellman was non exsistant in the playoffs when it counted..Ruiz had at least 6 goals in the playoffs and the MLS Cup winner..of course his MVP award was a no brainer. Ruiz might dive, might bitch alot..but the boy can finish .

I think it's great to see someone that fans hate. The league needs a guy like that. As for all the flopping, I'm surprised refs still call it.

I'm surprised that you're surprised that MLS refs get fooled by Senor Minnow when they never clued into Graziani's diving antics after the first two years.

Why do u give your players ridiculous nicknames? I mean its just to get fools to follow the football.

Too bad he was given that name way BEFORE he came to MLS.

People around the world use nicknames more(and more intelligently I might add) than US.

Strong breeze, nothin. The rotation of the earth tends to give his sense of balance a run for the money.

    I can't stand him.

Whether you like him or not, Carlos Ruiz is the best player ever to play in MLS. He is gonna be a world superstar sooner rather than later.

Now, if only the Galaxy's hideous midfield could give him two or three chances a game. Sigh.

Better than Friedel (insert any other MLS star's name here)? Don't count on it, chief.

BTW, its gonna be a bit hard to be a world superstar when his national team isn't considered, in any way, a world soccer threat (I'll give them credit though, they can be quite fiesty).

Also, taking dives is classless. Anyone who has the skills of Ruiz does not need to take dives in order to improve his play. BTW, last time I checked, Mike Clark did a good job of shutting him down in the MLS Opener (too bad Clark couldn't shut down Mais).

Yes, Carlos Ruiz is better than Brad Friedel, but the GK-v-striker argument is moot.

I don't defend diving. But, the dude does get beat down a lot!

Did you watch the Columbus game? I coulda given Ruiz better service than our midfield. Mike Clark did well enough, but you could have "stopped" Ruiz that day.

Ruiz is already as good a just about any striker in the world. He is that deadly!

"Papa' muerto del golpe" is a diving, whining punk. Watch any of the tapes and you'll see him hit the ground with little or no contact and if he doesn't get the call, he complains to the referee until he's blue in the face.

    From SoccerAmericaDaily newsletter:

"Kyle Martino is the league leader in fouls suffered with 10. Second is Galaxy pest Carlos Ruiz with seven, which is the same number of fouls he has committed."

Looks like Ruiz is dishing it out as well as having it dished to him. I have no sympathies for him getting "beat down a lot."

A heck of a player no doubt, but he probably leads the league in dives as well.

If Ruiz is already one of the best in the world, what about Twellman?

I like Ruiz. He's a great player and good for the league. Yea, sometimes he dives but not as much as everyone says and any good forward is going to dive now and then. He definitely gets beat upon almost non-stop in any given game.

Basically no one's found a way to stop him except his own midfield. No wonder people hate him so much.

I think you meant to say:

"Carlos Ruiz, god praise his name, is far superior to your wet dog infidel American players, and would cut the throats of Italian and French mercenary dogs in the English Premier League. Spanish defenders could not cover him even with strength drawn from stealing food from the mouths of children. Europeans will suffer the doom they wished for with Carlos Ruiz, and they will fall in a flood of fear and snakes."

Ruiz is an excellent player no doubt, but to say he can sart anywhere in the World is a little foolhearty. Scorching MLS does not mean he is going to tear it up say in Spain or EPL. I give him credit, dives and all, he is worth the price of admission. Also Guatemala with EL pescadito and Freddy Garcia and Dwight Pezzarosi will be a solid team in qualifying one no one should take lightly.

i love the fact that you all hate him. it makes him scoring at least one goal a game against all of your teams that much better! say what you want. at the end of the day he still puts in the goals.

ruiz got skill, and he's cheap, so he gets more goals. I said this before, hes Mamadou but smaller, so he gets away with more. Plus refs will buy his dives cause hes smaller. Ruiz is the little fish, Mamadou is the big fish. Just like Mamadou, defenses will figure out Ruiz and not take his crap. Since the galaxy doesn't have another offensive threat (chacon isn't a threat) galaxy will have a really tough time scoring this year. That Hong signing isn't lookin that great now, maybe you should have gotten another forward.

i'd bet anybody if Twellman dove like Ruiz last year and pulled the antics ruiz did, he'd have over 30 goals.
