Right now I think Mathis needs to concentrate on the Metrostars. He ain't back yet.

I'd like to see DMB play some left back. He's a pretty good defender, and has the speed to to get forward and still cover. Olson's a bit of the same deal with less speed.

Martino may or may not be ready, but as I said, having watched two Metro games, Mathis needs to minimize the distractions and produce with his club.

you're right to have pope in there instead of califf. don't know how i forgot about him.

martino may still be too green to start. he still holds the ball too long on occasion and will lose both his legs against mexico. that spot will go to either mathis or donovan.

otoh, no way will arena experiment with olson and dmb in the back line against mexico. don't know what he will do about left back, (convey?, victorine?, hardman franchino for toughness?), but we have good options at right back and don't need olson there.

I am thinking that we won't see many if any Euro based players since its the end of their season and all, unless of course its an international friendly date.

The FMF cannot match the facility or financial resources of the current USSF. As the U.S. becomes a world fúúbol power, the USSF will grow in wealth and devote more resources to the development of amateur fúúbol in the U.S. The U.S. will consistently place ahead of Mexico at FIFA’’s World Youth Championships, U17 World Championships, and Men's Olympic Football Tournaments. The U.S. just might win all three by 2010. The U.S. will definitely win one of these tournaments before Mexico ever does.

It takes tens of millions of dollars to create the necessary scouting system, recruit and develop coaches, officials, players, maintain leagues, and fund player facilities. The U.S. should have a merit based player recruitment system by 2006-2008. By 2010 the U.S. will have an NCAA Basketball level recruitment and training system for U.S. Soccer that will produce a Freddy Adu every two to three years. In 2014 an NFL level recruitment and training system for U.S. Soccer will produce a Hugo Sanchez EVERY YEAR. This will enable U.S. fúúbol to win the World Cup by 2014. By 2014, the USSF, MLS, and affiliated associations will spend $100,000,000 a year or more on scouting, recruitment and development of coaches, officials, players, league development, and player facilities.

The English First Division ends on May 3rd/4th. Eddie Lewis' last game is on Sunday, the 4th. He could be in Houston on Monday. I'd like to see him on Arena's squad for this match.

serie Zed has it unless McBride gets the call.
Lets not forget about Stewart and even JMM.

Both Stewart and JMM may not be WC material; however, I sure like having them on the field against the small caribbean teams in the first round of qualifying. Not too sure about Martino either.

    buddle(still injured?)
thorton--in case there is a brawl

there are several spots im not super comfortable, but i think against mexico its better to go with experience instead of testing new players. califf has looked solid so far in mls, but i dont think he's a long term solution. if buddle could play that'd be great, it'd obviously be throwing him right into the flames, but maybe that would show us what he's really made of. his size and ball posession skills would really help.

I really don't want to see Pope get hurt. I say play Garcia or Califf. The same goes for other injury prone players.

Clearly Mexico will be out for blood in front of their fans in Texas.

Cobi has got to get some PT too.

Might not be a bad time to call up Richie Williams and Lalas too :)

Honestly I am a bit afraid of losing a quality player in this match. I expect a typical hack fest.

Martino should not play in this game.

Think Martino has "earned" a shot at starting with the USMNT at the #10 spot!!

For lack of a "viable" option, I'd start Convey at LB.

My subs (though, I know this is just about the Starters) would be: Mathis, Buddle & Olsen.

ANOTHER 2-0 USMNT win, IMHO!! Sound familar??!!
