After having seen a steady dose of PSV the 1st half of the season, you would think that I would be a mindless PSV supporter. I think not, my friends. I also got a chance to see other clubs Ajax and Feyenoord and the other clubs that played PSV....Roda for example. I had my wife sit down, not into football at all and only familiar with the English Premiership clubs, and have her pick which crest/badge was her favorite. Trust me, people around the world pick clubs because they like 1 player, maybe it is their kits/jerseys, maybe their crests/badges, possibly the stadium and their fans. Drum roll, please. She picked Ajax. She said, "that is the best crest I have seen on a soccer team, yet." BTW..she also looked at other leagues and liked PSG, Inter Milan, and Celtic
Go find another wife Your wife is a glory hound You are lucky that your wife actually takes an interest in your stuff as well.
I hope.. that you are joking. Everytime I go to the pub almost an hour away, all the guys are complaining about the "old ball and chain" and how she never lets you do anything. My wife is the opposite. She wants me to hang out with the guys. She is not selfish and knows that it is important that men get their time. I would have NEVER married a suffocating wife. BTW, she didn't like any of the top clubs in Germany or Spain! I love Feyenoord's kits about their crest could be better.
Re: I hope.. My wife is the same way, but doesn't get involved with the game too much. Probably because it encompasses our lives, but that's okay. Its just cool that she assists you in these major decisions and seems to enjoy them. Its just a shame that she picked the wrong club
It's a big fat shame that Ajax changed the original crest (a real beauty) to this dull one... for a few extra bucks. But that's Ajax... if you can sell out, sell out fast It's back on the market now though... there's a profit to be made as many people don't like the current logo. That's the closest google got me
What the crest next to my name isn't good enough for you and your wife? Wow an American Ajax fan, there can't be too many of these around..............
Completely non-scientific way to go about it: 1. Put a map of the country on a dart board. 2. Close your eyes and throw a dart at it. 3. Support the top-division club closest to where the dart lands.
Re: Re: My scientific method on choosing my Dutch club Well, If I went by the old watch the league and see which club you feel close to...I would be a rabid PSV supporter because that is all they have shown for the most part in the US. I need some sort of connection to a club for me to get passionate about them. If I had a Dutch penpal maybe we could share his/her non-AJAX club...just an idea. Never been to the Netherlands and don't know a ton about the culture/politics/religion/people and especially the football. All I know is that Ajax, PSV, and Feyenoord are the Dutch clubs.
Re: Re: Re: My scientific method on choosing my Dutch club I could introduce you to some of my boys on the feyenoord@yahoogroups.com or shaqattacque@yahoogroups.com -- I can also hook you up with Utrecht peeps as well. What I would recommend... 1) Can you get news about your new fave club in English? Ajax and Feyenoord make that real easy 2) Are they on tv, yes, when they play each other or PSV - no complaints, at least we get them. 3) Are you cool enough for Feyenoord? Not everyone is - that's just the way it is. So if you answered "Yes" to #3, well you won't fit in with the Ajax fans I'm sorry I just love taking a little shot at our friends from the A'dam area. Rotterdam...not as cool a city as A'dam, but neither is as cool as Utrecht.
Re: Re: Re: Re: My scientific method on choosing my Dutch club ok dont listen to these feyemoord freaks - it's all snake oil and cubic zirconum (zirconia?) - trust in the woman, it's kinda like god's direct hotline for men - see what you should do now is convince the wife to take a trip to amsterdam, you gotta twist the situation on her - ya know, make her think it was her idea - and for heaven's sake DON'T FOLLOW Putrecht!!! that never did anybody any good i suggest that if you are having trouble deciding, you should go watch the top 20 goals of AJAX in the media planet at www.ajax.nl (register on the english side, watch the clips on the dutch side) JOB's on the list!
Why not Utrecht, Twente or NAC? All three clubs are (potential) subtop, all three play for sold out stadiums (maybe not the biggest) and are considered fine clubs with great and respected supporters. Basically you can divide NL football in three sections. Those who hate Ajax, those who hate feyenoord and those who just stand there being ignored most of the time. FC Utrecht is in the first group. FC Twente is mainly in the second. NAC is a bit of both. PSV is in the third btw. I don't know if they have any English sites (try searching google) but I do know that www.derat.nl has a very big English section. This is a truly great site by NAC supporters. All you ever need to know about NAC and it's supporters and their rich history. It's a bit of a shame that a lot of supportersites scrapped their English sections. If I find any others I'll let you know. Edit: forget about that site. Those idiots rearranged it and seemingly dropped the English section as well. Unbelievable...
Have to admit those Nac supporters are pretty damn cool. If I wasn't tied to Feyenoord that would be a cool group to hang with.
Re: Re: Re: My scientific method on choosing my Dutch club I wasn't trying to insult you or American Ajax supporters, I was saracastically remarking about another Ajax supporter, because even though only a few post in the Netherlands forum, there are a ton of people I see with Ajax listed as one of their favorite clubs.
where are you from? I was hoping that you are joking. I know fans always gravitate to the more popular and successful clubs. Having lots of fans to chat/meet with about our club, english version site, being able to see my club regulary...these are criteria. Sitting around by yourself, never seeing your club and them sucking is not my idea of fun. I know people say be different, those are always the Man Utd or Real Madrid fans...LOL...ironic.
Re: where are you from? Well the big two have a lot of presence around here. English site: Feyenoord has one of the best, Ajax is anti-Mac (that's bad) PSV - has stuff, but blah TV: see above post sucking: thanks to the rest of the league, the top 3 are the top 3. Last Dutch team to win a European trophy: Feyenoord 2002 UEFA Cup.
Nah... Cool supporters are German St. Pauli fans sorry they aren't dutch. Think about it they play in *#*#*#*# brown colours play in the regional leagues and still have almost the same average gates as when they played in BL1. But I personally am fascinated by Vitesse supporters, with all they problems they have still the 4th best supported team in the eredivisie or Heerenveen fans. Half of the Heerenveen city turns up to see the team play every 2nd week that must be one of europe best supported teams compared to the city size.
Re: Re: Re: Re: where are you from? Went to Amsterdam the nicest people I have ever met in big city already liked Ajax decided to become a supporter.
