I'll be honest with you. After following the US team since the 1990 World Cup and rooting very hard every WC, for tomorrows game against Algeria I have my hopes in check.

I don't think anyone can blame me or anyone else that feels the way I do. Don't get me wrong, Ill be rooting hard and yelling at the TV, but Ive been too dissapointed in the past to go into tomorrows game thinking its an easy win or a win at all. I think Slovenia showed us that.....again.

Every WC has been a struggle. We have almost depended more on luck and others than on ourselves...in 94 we got a help from the late Andres Escobar and snuck into r16. In 98 after a big buildup we embarrased ourselves and all the fans were let down. We even got beat by IRAN. One of quite a few games over the years that we though we could win.

2002 was one of the few times that we won on OUR MERITS but not entirely. We only got through cause South Korea beat Portugal in the last minute of their game. Then yes we beat MEXICO without any doubt. The 3-2 Portugal game was also a great win even though Agoos did everything he could to give away the win.

In 06 it was another huge buildup and we got spanked all over the field by the likes of Ghana. Now in 2010 we were handed a point on Green's gift and we barely escaped a defeat in the hands of Slovenia.

With all that, how could any fan in his right mind think "We have this in the bag" or "how many goals should we score on Algeria?"

I feel its 50-50. Literally can go either way.

But one thing is for sure the team needs to make things happen, we cant count on own goals every year (escobar 94, Italy 06, Green 10) or last minute comebacks. We have to come out guns a'blazing and finally make a definitive statement that the US has arrived.

I have to admit I had a sense of dread going into the slovenia game...I don't have it right now...I am going on pure feeling along, but I think we get this one. I am with the op, though. This is all tempered going back to my disappointments in 98 and 06

I also have a good feeling about this one, but then again so did I against Ghana in '02. I was more worried we'd win and Italy wouldn't hold up their end of the bargain against the Czechs.

Anyone overly optimistic should just remember that our last World Cup win was 8 years ago. Not last week, or last time around. But almost a decade. I don't think we've earned the right yet to expect victory against anyone. That being said, I think tomorrow, and then this coming weekend can put us on the track to being that sort of team.

I'm ready for either outcome and I can see both happening...it will make me very proud if they win, but I know realistically our team has plenty of flaws that can come back and bite us.

If we had a solid defense and the way this WC is going I think we could make a nice deep run....have to work on defensive depth for 2014 but alot of that comes down to health.

As a Saints fan, I have developed a strong will for let downs. I have high hopes for tomorrow. 3-1 US.

I should keep an emotional distance. But I can't help myself. My heart will be either uplifted or broken tomorrow.

    Fan since Italia 90 myself.

I really thought about just going to work tomorrow and trying to keep a normal day and hope that it works out, eyeing gametracker or whatever like I do for most of the other matches. Basically, not wanting to put myself through the stress of the game in case it starts to go south.

I couldn't do it and ended up taking the morning off........

Let's go boys. The time is now.

Did this for the Confederation's Cup. Made an effort to make sure I watched Brazil and Italy. Got pissed and skipped the Egypt and Spain games in order to get more work done. Tuned back in for the Brazil final.

i think the game could go either way. the US defense has been pretty porous and unorganized. but algeria isnt really a top program...however they will be out to prove something. it should be entertaining and hopefully the US will strike first this time.

Clearly a brain fart. Obviously I am speaking of '06

If you just felt like sarcastically correcting, why not point out that we didn't play the Czech's in '02 either?
