This past Tuesday, while training at the IMG Soccer Academy in Florida, I had the pleasure to play against Heather Mitts. Since she has signed or will be signing with IMG, she came down for the day to train at the facility. I was matched up against her in our scrimmage since she required both the outside mid and the outside back (me) to defend her. She was very fast, which got her by people more than any moves did. She did have a move where she stepped over the ball as if she was going into the middle to freeze the defender and then she would push the ball past on the outside. I was the victim of it many times-she was just too quick for me. I did manage to beat her to a ball once and take it from her another time. Now granted that was only twice in about the 20 times that we went up against each other, but hey, it's the little victories that matter. She had to leave right after the practice so she only talked to us for about two minutes. She did say that she loved playing soccer for a living and that the fans were awesome. It was pretty awesome to play against someone of her caliber, and I hope WUSA teams/players will look to train at IMG in the future!
Yeah, when I first saw this tread I thought this was going to be some guys fantasy. Hopefully one day I will be able to get one past her. I hear she comes off the ball well.
Hey Lauren. Are you attending IMG? I heard that place will cost your folks an arm and a leg. LOL. Hope you get your money's worth. BTW, slug Bollittieri(sp?) for me when you get the chance. LOL. Don't you miss the snow & the cold? Great to hear you had fun with your scrimmage with Heather. She took you to school huh? LOL. Tip: slide-tackle. Did you already commit to Satan Clara? They have a very good program. They have boisterous fans. And very obnoxious when they play Stanford. LOL. Don't be mad at me if I cheer against you when you put on the "enemy" jersey. LOL.
