    This deserves its own thread!

    Rafael wants 'dream' Barca switch

Ajax star Rafael van def Vaart has confirmed he will be leaving the Amsterdam giants in the summer, and admitted he is desperate for a move to Barcelona.
The Dutch international indicated that a move to Spain would be his priority, and revealed that he had always followed the Catalan outfit.

If Barca land this guy in january, they should be able to climb up to a Champions League spot, although they should already be in that spot

You somehow forget somethnig. Ajax wont sell him in january, but he might leave in summer. It is not enough that player prefer Barca from others. It will be Ajax who will set the price. Here is a problem: Chelsea, Milan, Inter, Juventus, Man Unt, Arsenal, even some teams from Spain want him and they all have better financial status as barca has. Lets say that Barca offer 20 million € for him, Milan and Man Unt will 25 million € and offer him bigger contract. It will be the money in the end who will decide where he will go. And we are not strong in this field at the moment!!!

Dont understand me wrong. I want him to play for Barca but I dont know if Laporta has the money?!

I guess you missed the deal with La Caixa? € 180 million to finance our debts and signings?

It is on paper yes, but there is a limit my friend at 180 million €. 156 million debts (+ interests) and 30 million for Ronnie, we are already over. I hope there is more than just one bank to help us. And we cant just wasting money, we also need to get some.
I would like to know what the board and Laporta say about Rafael and money.

VDV could fit in in January..as he already knows Spanish so Rijkaard would have no excuses other than fitness and performance, to which we can all see.

We're shipping out at least 5 players (Kluivert, Andersson, Dani, Bonano and Luis Enrique) Add probably Cocu and Overmars to that figure.
