The tournament is just four months away. I'm surprised there isn't already a thread for this. Of maybe I just can't find it. I'd like to see both Julian de Guzman and Dwayne de Rosario be honored the same way Landon Donovan was with a final game in a warmup for the Gold Cup, but I wouldn't take either. Any mistakes? Any players here retired from the national team? Is the Gold Cup roster only 20 players?
I was waiting until the final schedule and groups were announced before starting a thread specifically for the Gold Cup. When that comes out I will set something up. As for your squad picks, I would pick pretty much the same. Don't understand why you have Hutch listed as a defender though, he's an attacking mid. Does anybody know what's going on with Will Johnson? He hasn't played with the team in over a year and I'm not sure why. Has he fallen out of favour or has he decided he doesn't want to be bothered? Here's the starting XI I would put out (assuming Johnson is still playing with us): Borjan Henry - Hainault - Edgar - DeJong Osorio - Hutch - Johnson - Teibert Randy E-B - Ricketts
I think that defense and midfield looks good but unfortunately we're really weak in the forward department. Any news on whats happening with Hoilett?
I've long given up on Hoilett. It's a shame he won't play for us but we need to move on with what we have. The onyl good news is that it seems Jamaica won't get him either.
Johnson was injured for 6 months in September. He should be back a month into the season according to this. With Mapp injured on the Impact, look for Max Tissot to get some games under his belt and maybe play himself into contention for a spot.
My bad, Hutchinson is a midfielder, but according to transfermrkt his first position is defensive midfielder and his secondary position is right back. http://www.transfermarkt.com/atiba-hutchinson/profil/spieler/16101
From wiki: In March 2012, Hoilett told various media bodies that he would consider playing for the England national football team if eligible. As Hoilett, his parents and grandparents were not born on the territory of The Football Association, Hoilett needed to meet additional criteria established between the associations of the Home Nations. The Home Nations do not offer eligibility to play for their national teams based solely on a residency requirement, instead they require players to be educated in the relevant Football Association's territory for five years before the age of 18. While Hoilett joined Blackburn at 13 years of age and did spend five years under contract to the club before turning 18, his two years spent living in Germany on loan to SC Paderborn and St. Pauli mean that he is not eligible for the English national team under the terms of the "Home nations agreement" which prevents players becoming eligible through residency and by requiring a foreign-national to undergo 5 years of education before the age of 18 in the territory of the Football Association he wishes to play for.
I knew about his injury (in fact, I was at the game where he got injured), but it had still been six months before that since his last appearance. Now that he's a little out of shape coming off the injury, and since he hasn't been in the fold for so long, I'm wondering if he may not even get the call, or if he does will be a bench player. Hope not, we could really use him out there.
Hutchinson would definitely play in the centre of the midfield for us, although with Besiktas he's played at every position in defence or midfield at some point.
Big surprise, we`re in group B. And as I also predicted, Jamaica is also in Group B, and to prove my genius even further, Canada and Jamaica are not playing against one another at the match being held in Toronto (we`ll be playing against Costa Rica). Also in group B is El Slavador. Over the next couple of days I will start a Gold Cup 2015 specific thread with pertinent details in the inital post.
Article on Marcel de Jong (he's almost as good as the hockey player!) at mlssoccer.com http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...ing-longtime-sporting-kc-starter-seth-sinovic
I can see that, but I prefer players who are playing regularly in a (semi) major league like MLS than a player who is playing on an under 23 team.
Henry is now on loan to Blackburn Rovers and has started both league games since he got there (was on the bench for an FA Cup match). By all accounts he played very well in both games (assisting on the winning goal in the second one) and looks to be a regular starter for the rest of the season. Someone who can start regularly in the Championship surely is a shoo in for the CMNT.
Oh cool, that's pretty impressive, especially for a 22 year old. I didn't know that. He's doing better than DeAndre Yedlin.
Doneil Henry is listed as a centreback while Morgan is a leftback. I'd drop either Manrejkou James or Dejan Jakovic.
Another possible leftback (and Canada really lacks depth at this position): From a post on mlssoccer.com (Vancouver Whitecaps' Sam) Adekugbe was really superb. The young man covers the ground and knows some of what to do when he arrives, too. Couldn't believe when Manneh ignored his overlap late and turned the ball over. By the time Chicago's counter got close there was Sam, rounding into position out of nowhere. Similar to Doneil Henry, is there any possibility of young Canadian, D-mid, and current Deportivo Reserve Player Samuel Piette being transferred to a team in a higher level league?
National Team up and comers Mostly Young players, of course. Am I missing anybody? Any mistakes? A number have already played for the national team. De Guzman, Haber and Larin will be on the first team; there's no doubt of that. If Akindele accepts the call (and according to Floro it's a 99.0% chance) then he'll also be on the first team. I'd be shocked if Henry isn't on the team since along with Edgar he's our best CB. I'd doubt that Occean, Dunfield, Crebera and Aleman get the call. James is questionable if Henry is healthy.

Benito Floro plays 4-1-4-1. He seems pretty consistent with that formation. The back four will definitely have David Edgar, probably at CB. Ledgerwood to play RB. Marcel de Jong at LB. The other CB could be Jakovic, Hainault, maybe Henry. At the lone DM its gonna be Julian de Guzman. JDG has Spanish league cred, and lots of team Canada experience. The next 4 across the midfield? Hutch for sure, Randy E-B, the other two spots I don't know. the Lone striker will be tough. Cyle Larin,Jordan Hamilton, Ricketts, maybe Tesho if he commits.
