Maybe y'all ought to have one thread dedicated to Mia-news. :)

Anyways, The Magpie from the Rev's forum spotted this item.

October 4th, 2002 "Inside Track", the gossip column for the Boston Herald:

"WFNX's (local radio station) Jim Murray reports that Nomar Garciaparra was out with his parents the other day shopping for a 5-carat engagement ring we assume he plans to bestow on his beloved, soccer star Mia Hamm. Word is, Nomar was shopping in the $50,000 to $100,000 price range. Nice neighborhood!"

I didn't know those two were even an item. I thought Mia was married to some Marine dude?

Does the fact that he may (or may not) be shopping for a ring mean that she will accept? Hell if I were her I'd be trying to keep the guy as a boyfriend for as long as possible so as to avoid the aggravation of an actual marriage. On the other hand, maybe they need each other as a tax break.

I seriously doubt that they "need" each other for a tax break considering how much money they each make. Sure it would prolly be nice, but they don't "need" a tax break. I think they're just generally moving towards marriage...if I remember correctly, they already have a place together in DC.

Often, when two people marry and file their taxes jointly they end up paying less, rather than if each filed individually as a single moneyed person.

Then again, Mia and what's his face probably have so much money between the two of them they would be better off putting it into an alpaca farm or something as a tax dodge, rather than trying to save money by marrying.

Anyway, I hope it works out for them. In spite of the fact that I think Nomar is kind of ummm, homely. The least he could do is shear that scraggly-ass facial hair. Those goatee things don't look "tough" so much as unsightly, unkempt, and nasty - like Aprils teeth.

We can't ALL be wrong about this guy. I mean I don't remember any criticism about Christiaan when they were married. I mean I'm sure there was some but not nearly this much. Of course he wasn't such a public figure like Nomar is, but still we don't hate evry baseball player or every guy. She could do soo much better. I don't know him, but he's just too goofy for me.

I don't think that the 50,000 to 100,000 range is two months salary for him. Is Mia getting shorted?

I mean, two months salary for him has to be at least a million.

there is a difference between tastful and beautiful and gawdy and way too much.

    5 carats sounds about right.

Dude, if it's bigger than that she'll need a fork lift to carry it around.

Honestly, though, it's their business if they're getting married or not. If they do, great. If they don't, they probably will eventually.

Come on, guys. Stop beating on the guy. He's not that horrible. If he makes her happy, well my God, let's keep him around.

you're right. I'm glad she's happy, and if he makes her happy then keep him around. But I still think he's goofy. Hell i would take a 5 carat ring anyday.:)

That doesn't make him a loser. It just means he's close to his parents. And if they care enough to go with him, that means that they must really like Mia.

Yeah. He is a multimillion dollar superstar athlete, and is probably going to marry the most popular female in all of sports (plus the fact that she's considered a hottie).

Looser indeed. Sucks to be him.

Now I don't like him that much, but i disagree that shopping with this parents makes him a loser. It's a big deal. What's the problem? I think the fact that he is close with his parents, and considers what they think on this issue important, actually scores him points. I love a family guy.*

*Repeat: I am in no way a fan of Nomar.

Sorry, love my parents dearly. They were not with me when I bought my wife her engagement ring.

BTW, you can be rich and famous and still be a LOSER.
