http://floodplainfooty.wordpress.com/2010/08/18/my-american-envy/ Since starting to surf th is forum...I keep getting reminded about how different things are here in the States compared to jolly old England..... Which made me wax poetic about it today.
Nice write up!! Oh and very good Pool video too!! You might like this one too. It is from the final home game of the regular season back in May against Bristol City. We had to match Swansea Citys result in order to reach the promotion play-offs. This 5 min video was filmed by a Bristol City fan in the build up to the match. The "big flag" he films going across the South Stand, I help to unfurl at each home game. Whilst it is 5 mins long, the best bit is toward the end as the fans prepare for the teams to come out - from 4:24 onward. Even with the horrible old East Stand, the noise is superb. Many away fans and managers come to Bloomfield Road and get a big shock. We have comparitevely small crowds, but we don't half make a racket..... Thanks!! I didn't have any local news to post about today, and I needed to do an editorial anyway...so again...waxing poetic about Blackpool. There'll be more this season I'm sure. Waiting for the video to load up now.
Apparently, I wasn't the only one talking about Blackpool yesterday on the blog... http://floodplainfooty.wordpress.com/2010/08/18/extra-time-2/
Good stuff! I'm not sure if you know this, but the Houston Dynamo are of the "orange" persuasion too!
Thanks! Please forgive my self pimping. I'm trying to keep it to stuff that's only relevant here, but we do post two to three articles per day. As for Houston, I didn't know that, but I'm still learning the MLS...this is my first season watching anything American....
"self pimping"!!!! HA HA What a great expression. Please, by all means, feel free to use this thread to link to your blogs whatever they are!
Thank you. Who are ya? No, really…who are you? What makes you a fan? Do you call yourself a fan of soccer or a passionate supporter of AC St. Louis? Do you purchase your gameday ticket on the day of, sit politely with your nachos and Coke or did you have season tickets for section 19 or 20 in your possession as fast as the club could mail them to you? I suppose there used to be a difference. Maybe a difference in what one fan considered a “real fan” versus another. The division between the supporter’s clubs and the rest of AC St. Louis’ fanbase had grown with a considerable divide. Some defined their actions as that of the truest of supporters. Others denounced it as vulgar and destructive. Whatever side you stood on, one truth remained at the forefront: AC’s fans come in all shapes, sizes and styles. Here's one written by Kyle, another one of our contributors...there are five of us. Me: Arsenal/Blackpool STLSteve: I dunno who his EPL team is. Kyle/Irish Steve: West Ham Tim: also..dunno. I think I might ask everybody to do a story every two weeks on their EPL team for the off season...(for us)
My blog has been linked by our league's official site. http://nasl.com/article/the-tip-sheet-friday-august-20-2010 Just amazed.
It’s time to return to Section 2o for the Supporters Corner perspective on the match. This week in Section 20, we had a very special visitor, Captain Jack Traynor. Not too shabby for a bunch of drunks, eh? This past match was suspended in the 87th minute due to lightning and the next 45 minutes or so under the roof actually made for some pretty interesting times, including getting all the kids together to chant and beat the drums with us. What more can you really ask for? Even though the month of August wasn’t the greatest for the boys on the field, we always have a good time at the matches. Let’s check it out.
This morning I made it out to Creve Coeur Park for the first time to watch AC St. Louis practice. Normally they would be at Soccer Park, but due to the lingering heat the grass out there was not fit to train on. Players that missed training today ...
This one is kind of a big deal. http://floodplainfooty.wordpress.com/2010/08/25/the-throw-in-brad-davis/ Somehow, one of our guys got an interview with Brad Davis, currently of the Houston Dyanmo, who also played for the United States Men's National Team this year in the CONCACAF tournament.
This won't be comforting to you, but there is a connection between Blackpool and the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Do you know what it is? See if you can follow me: Blackpool and the Houston Dynamo are "sister" clubs, if you will. Paul Dalglish (son of Kenny "The King" Dalglish), who was a Seasider some years back, also played for the Dynamo. When Paul was with the Dynamo, he signed a shirt for the Blackpool supporters and it was sent to Bloomfield Road to be displayed (not sure if it is.) Paul is now the manager of the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Ta-da!
Very interesting blog. I have been lucky enough to follow this amazing sport since I started playing in the very early 80's. I am glad that more and more are getting to experience it thanks to all the added tv coverage. I am just making my first football based trip to Germany and London this September but I hope to make it a yearly trip overseas from this point forward. As for Blackpool, I am so hoping that those Tangerines stay up!
Oh, you're not nice. Do you know what the connection of St. Louis to the USMNT is? SLU! http://floodplainfooty.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/billikens-fall-in-season-opener/ Tim Ream, Brian McBride, Brad Davis, Steve Ralston, etc. The 2010 USMNT was the first to not have a player from St. Louis on its roster. Also..we're covering Saint Louis University Soccer now...we've been given press credentials. NCAA Div 1!
Thank you. We've got a long and storied soccer history here in St. Louis, MO and we're working on reclaiming our place as Soccer City, USA. As for 'Pool, I can't wait till the weather cools down some more so I can wear my vintage pool shirt!
well, I am definitely rooting for a MLS club in St. Louis somewhere in the future. As for Blackpool, I noticed myself addicted to watching the few matches I caught while streaming last season late along with the playoffs. Ian's personality is so refreshing and I love the attacking style.
Right now we've got a Division II club in the NASL/USL USSF Div II conglomerate. I'm happy with what we have, but I do want MLS in the future... I expect around the time when it expands to 24 clubs.
