Tune in and watch if Bazooka Joe wil take home his deserved award or not. Interestingly, he will not be in Anaheim for the award presentation but will be available "from a remote location" according to MLS. Moreno and Guevara are going to be there in person, however.
Too bad I'll be working tomorrow. Greenie, have you heard anything about an expanded relationship with MLS and ESPN/ESPNews? They seem to be picking up a lot more MLS activities like the Expansion draft and this.
I haven't heard about anything expanded and I doubt there is. My guess is that it's a combination of MLS Cup being on ABC (and thus the Mouse wanting to push it as much as possible) and there not being much of anything else sports-news-wise going on during the weekdays right now. Most likely the presentation won't take up more than a few minutes of airtime.
It looks like this is going to happen during a program called "The Hot List" (1 - 4 pm local). Never seen it, but I have Tivo on the case.
Joe will not win this award. My money is on Guevara just so they can keep him in the league. I think Joe is training with the national team right now which is why he won't be in L.A.
Wouldn't a nat call up have been released to the press? If he gets the start against Jamaica I'll be very happy.
My predictions/picks are: MVP: Moreno (who I think deserves it) Defender of the Year: Fraser (who will win it for sure. Bet on it!) Rookie of the year: Marshall (who I think will win) Dempsey (who I think should win) Coach of the year: Gansler
I think Cannon will get the MVP. Without him the Rapids would have been one of the worst if not the worst team in the league. With him we came in 3rd in the division and with him we finished in the middle of the league. The others can't make that claim, IMO.
NOTE there is a chance the announcement is at 1pm MT. - Yesterday's MLS press release stated "1pm PT" (2PM MT) - Original MVP press release (linked below) states "4pm ET" (2PM MT) http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20041024&content_id=17630&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp - Today's MLSnet home page states announcement is at "3pm ET" (1PM MT) http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/index.jsp Thanks, MLS!
Nothing doing on ESPNews at the moment other than basketball talk. MLSnet's main page claims it's "on right now!" but to their credit, they are offering a streaming link: mms://a1503.v115042.c11504.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1503/11504/v0001/mlbmls.download.akamai.com/11504/reflector:37477
Just spoke with the MLS PR Dept. That's their error on MLSNet, the acutal correct broadcast time is 2pm MT That link will still work. Thanks, and wish Joe good luck, -Rapids
Actually, during the afternoons, when nothing else is happening in the major sports, they often have MLS stuff. I can remember not too long ago, they were hyping up the Arsenal & Manchester United match, and discussing Malcolm Glazer's takeover bid. Ironically, they also asked Tommy Smyth who was going to win between the Red Sox and Yankees as game 7 was later that night. And I remember Smyth was on there every weekday with reacps during the Euro tournament. Could also be because the only sports going on on the weekdays right now is basketball, so they have to fill out the time....
I don't think I get the channel so I miss out. Too bad. Glad to see they are atleast talking about the sport more often in the large scale sports media.
Big props to Joe C from the host of the ESPNews show. Says US might be the best country in the world in terms of keepers and for Joe to break into the first three or four there is a huge achievement.
Glad I can get the PBP here. I have it streaming audio at work, but can't get the video and I just got a call I had to take, so I've been distracted. C'mon Joe!
