Is the buzz about 19-year old Mix Diskerud at Stabæk legit??

Should he be a target # 1 for a senior team cap (a la the upcoming Brazil match) to lock him to our Fed and ensure we don't lose him Norway???

I don't know much about him other than read he is some sort of super-sub in the Norwegian premier league and has banged in a bunch of goals... and that he has played some limited time for our U-20 team but still has option to play at senior level for Norway if he gets called (holds dual US and Norwegian citizenship).

    Any detailed information/opinion appreciated...

Michael Hoyos -- cap him after the Cup!

Hopefully Argies dont win this thing and get him smitten.

I agree with integrating Diskerud into the lineup as soon as the World Cup is finished. Maybe invite him to camp. If we can schedule a match on 9/7 (The other FIFA date this year), we can give him extended playing time then, or in Camp Cupcake early 2011.

As Kool Herc said, Hoyos is definitely one to watch. I really think he will probably make the Olympic team. Rongen needs to keep an eye on him. While this World Cup showed that Neven was not the biggest of losses, the reality is that we can't afford to lose talent no matter what.

Brazil game won't cap tie anyone. It might be an inducement for guys to choose us over other teams, but we won't own their asses the way Nolte owned Murphy's in 48 Hrs. or anything.

why don't we organize a friendly against American Samoa and just captie every promising, dual-nationality player. Seriously

Hoyos would be our #1 guy.

Diskerud is already provisionally cap-tied to us. If he were to switch to Norway even for a friendly, that would be it. Which he obviously wouldn't do unless he was convinced he didn't have a chance with the USA.

That being said, he is a very bright young attacker, and should get a look within the next 8 months.

As far as I know, he is not 'cap tied' in friendlies for either team, he would have to play in the Gold Cup, WCQ, Confed Cup, WC to actually get cap tied.

So if this were a huge priority, the US won't even have the oppurtunity until June 2011.

mix, hoyos, and daniel williams should all be in consideration for a call-up before the end of the year.

Mix is not exactly a super sub anymore; he's started 13 of 14 league matches for Stabæk. I expect that he will get a look friendlies next year, and he has a chance to make the Gold Cup squad if he performs well for club and country.

It should be noted that it is VITAL for the USSF to schedule a friendly for the last FIFA date of the year, 9/7, if you want to see any of those players.

Personally, I would love to see Argentina or Mexico--Something that brings the fed a lot of cash and at the same time give the probable new coach a lesson on what it is to be USA's gaffer.

But never mind that- we can probably see Mix in camp cupcake, but Hoyos needs the FIFA date. Williams may not have a US passport, but his father IS American. I think, however, if Klinsy is the next man, Williams may reach an understanding with the USSF.

Mix is a bit of a favorite over in the YA forums, if for no other reason than his incredible head of hair. He's also got an account here, and posts occasionally.

He had 18 appearances last season (4 starts/14 subs) and scored 4 goals. He's already got 14 appearances this year (13 starts/1 sub), having featured in every one of Stabaek's matches. Also has 4 goals so far, 2 in the league and 2 in the Norwegian cup. Can't find how many assists he's gotten so far, but I believe he also has 2 already this season. He plays centrally or out wide.

    Some highlights (Mix is #21):

    http://fotball.aftenposten.no/eliteserien/article140836.ece (scored the 2nd goal)

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qL0pClpIHlY&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube- Kampsammendrag: Stabæk 2 - Lillehammer[/ame] (Last season, playing for the second team; goal is at 1:20)

    http://www.stabak.no/menn/article23274.ece (assisted first goal)

http://www.stabak.no/menn/article30448.ece (had a decent shot/cross at 3:00, then drew a player's second yellow, then scored in stoppage time to tie the game)

He also scored 2 goals in a 12-1 win over a lower tier side in the cup. There are video highlights, although I seem to have lost them now.

Stabaek and Mix are currently on break, with their next game on July 5th.

People keep talking about Hoyos, but when is the last time he even played in a match for Estudiantes? Mix, on the other hand, is a starter for Stabaek. He's played in the Europa league and will at least be involved in the early qualifying rounds of the EL this year. He's one of the top new guys to keep an eye on this year.

His last game was in March, Hoyos started the match. We should cap him because apparently Estudiantes and the AFA think he is a good player.

Mix should be a Nats prospect high on the federation's list. I've managed to catch several streamings of his games and the kid can flat out play. He's technically and tactically sound. He's positioning himself for an international call-up. Mix is far from fully developed but each time I've seen him he's impressed me a little bit more. What I like is that he's got the ability to play with flair (a la Dempsey) or simplistic (a la Feilhaber). That tells me he reads the game well and can adapt to situations. He plays further up the pitch than Benny but he's got that smooth feel to his game. If he continues his rapid development and plays well this season I wouldn't be surprised if higher level clubs started to knocking on the door.

He loves to shoot from distance I think he plays on the left

Here is another game which he played with Estudiantes against Boca I think it was a pre season game

    What says he'll accept?

Will he get the Rossi treatment if he doesn't?

Hoyos is good enough to get invited by the AFA to travel with the team to South Africa (if only has practice fodder.)

I would hate to lose a player to Argentina; though I suppose it would be difficult to blame him in some respects, he could win one with them (if he makes the team.

I think it also helps that he is a dual national who has declared for USA.

You know, for how many threads that we have discussed what cap ties a player, you would think everyone would have a general understanding of this. Absolutely unbelievable you have to explain this.

    Seriously.

    Enough about Hoyos already.

In the meantime, Diskerud has actively committed to the US program, and more importantly, can frickin' play. He's been starting regularly at Stabaek for almost a year now and (to me) was our best player at the U-20s last year in limited action.

Guy is smooth on the ball, has good striking technique, and comes off in interviews as incredibly intelligent and mature.

I'd hate to lose him too, but being practice fodder isn't enough for me. Lets see what he does when the Argentine league starts up again.

Here's hoping he makes the next call-up for CONCACAF match then next year...

...Another youngster that can hopefully add to the Mix and push the rest of forward pool with competition and towards better things...
