    I figure this time at war would be a good time for folks to learn something about and explore the music of the region the war is taking place in.

    Here's some fantastic music from Iraq:

    Munir Bashir

    Bashir died in 1997 and was widely considered one of the world's finest oud players.
    His live concert from Paris is particularly awesome.

    His son, Omar also plays the oud, but usually plays with more modern/fusion ensembles.

    The first 8 tunes are amazing. The last four are modern pop songs.

    Since Turkey's name has come up too:

    Goksel Kartal, Tatyos Efendi, Tanburi Cemil Bey are great Turkish musicians.
