Don't know how to post link, but according to Globe and Frank, "...Revolution goalkeepers coach John Murphy has been offered an assistant position with Dallas, and is also being considered by Columbus and D.C. United."

Don't know if this means much as I would wonder why he would move laterally basically. Isn't he technically an assistant(along with Matt Driver) and goalkeeper coach?

I think that M.D. is the actual Asst. Coach even if J.M. has input on the coaching staff.

There are first assistants and there are second assistants in MLS. First assistants gets paid a reasonable salary and second assistants work for peanuts and have to do stuff like youth academies and drive players to the airport.

Driver is the first assistant and provides Nicol with a second Scottish accent so that he'll feel at home.

Murph was the second assistant that doesn't get compensated realistically for his sweat and toil. If he went elsewhere, he'd be a first assistant and get paid a whole lot more with a better chance for future advancement.

So if Murphy goes, it would help his pocketbook and his future career.

Murph's legit. And, that was before he got his book published. :)

If that's what he wants to do, I wish him nothing but the best. But, the day he (if) leaves, that'll create a tremendous void on the Revs. The man's been nothing but a workhorse.

Murph's been like Cinderella and some of the others before him were her older sisters (Figuratively speaking). Think about it, he's been here since the days when Ed Tremble and Renato Capobianco, the Harry Dunn and Lloyd Christmas of soccer coaches, were assistants.

Plus, he's got an excellent chance at stepping up to head coach when Andrulis finally gets canned, which seems likely to happen before too long....

    Mass Exodus !

    Fans -

First off, congratulations to John Murphy for his new job with the Crew. He'll be a good addition to that staff.

Second, and more importantly, the rumors floating around Revland is that Murph may not be the last to leave. The Revs have already lost their equipment manager to the US Men's team. Word is that Coach Driver and Cappobianco may be next.

It appears that there is a rift bewteen the soccer folk and new GM Tornberg. While most fans will support Tornberg and his ticket selling abilities, it seems that the soccer folk are already growing tired of his desire to want to be involved on the team side of the business. Isn't that why the Revs have Gulati and Cappo? If i'm not mistaken, both Gulati and Capo know each other since pre '94 World Cup and have been in the league since it's inception.

I hope for the Revs sake that the rumors aren't true and that the Revs don't lose any more personel. They seem to finally be on the right track.

P.S. nice pick up in Demspey!

    Support the Revs !!

    Does this mean:
    1. new jobs within MLS or elsewhere that they are interviewing/being recruited for
    2. walking papers

(Full disclosure: Murph is a good friend.)

I think this is somewhat tragic for the Revs. They'll be hardpressed to find any one person who can do what he did. The youth program will likely suffer as will the goalkeeper coaching, not to mention college scouting (for which he was primarily responsible) and input on training. Also, the players liked and respected him, which is not necessarily the case with other members of the Revolution staff.

Still, it's a good move for Murph. He's been concerned for some time about being labelled the "local guy" and getting stuck in a dead end job. I think it's also fairly apparent that Nicol and Driver are a team that won't be split, i.e. Murph wasn't going to move up within the Revolution organization. He's a hardworking and ambitious guy. I imagine he'll be a head coach in this league before you know it.

    Fans -

It is great to have C.Blue pop up and post to us whenever there is any Renato Capo news.
I wonder whose agent C.Blue happens to be?

Interesting news on this rift, though.
I thought Craig T. would get a bigger desk, a shinnier nameplate and a new roll of tickets to sell as GM and would not be involved in on-field team decisions.
But according to C.Blue, that is not the case.

The loss of Murphy will hurt, since he apparently had his hand in just about all team aspects and supposedly ran the best training sessions of any one on the staff, Nicol included. Murphy had to earn his respect since he was never had any cache as a former player.

Now it is just Nicol and Matt Chauffeur.
A top notch assistant coach now becomes a priority for Nicol, Sunil and Craig T., I guess.

    Big Frank -

"Sorry Charlie", the closest I come to being an insider is regurgitating the scuttlebutt I hear from a long time season ticket holder from Quincy.

I would guess that most of us crazed fans on these
threads are right 25% of the time. Total accuracy is sheer luck.

Seriously- from what I hear, Murphy's departure will be a big loss for the Revs and a big addition for the Crew. He also did many of the Revolution clinics.

    Good luck to John Murphy.

    Go Revs (and Patriots) !

clearblue: The part about Craig Tornberg's meddlesome side is pure unadulterated fiction on someone's behalf. Craig's exuberant and enthusiastic - and, most importantly, he knows his role. What you're reporting here is total BS. I'm there at Gillette quite a bit. I talk to people there. And, they talk to me. This has never come up. I've got lots of faith in the people I talk to. Stop, man. Stop it now.

You may be right about Renato Capobianco, though [You're his agent?]. I do believe there's a good amount of truth about Capobianco leaving. Then again, it wouldn't be the first time he's left the Krafts. What's it been? Is it three, four or five times he's been fired by the Kraft empire? If he gets cut loose he'll be in some good company. He'll rank right up there Billy Martin, who was canned by George Steinbrenner more times than I can remember.

clearblue: Ask Capo about the time in Los Angeles last year when he totally neglected to arrange for ground transportation for the return home trip and the team had to call for a fleet of cabs to get them to the airport. Like my parole officer says: That's not good. Not good at all. Sounds like someone could have used a meddlesome individual to help save his arse.

    Danizinho -

I'm not here to write negatively about anyone. I'm just enjoying taking part in the rumor mill that is these boards.

No, I'm not Cappo's agent, never even met the man. Nor Tornberg for that matter.

Regarding your tale from LA, I can't imagine someone completely forgetting to schedule a bus. If you are so interested in these type of rumors, I should think you would verify them by going to the source before you cast negative opinions on someone.

    Go Revs !

I don't think Craig sees himself as a "GM" in the way the role is defined in other sports. His role is da bidness, that's it. He's more Brian O'Donovan than Bill Parcells.

The only "player involvement" he's had was that he was the one who tipped them off to William Sunsing and got him here. I don't know for sure, but I tend to believe that was more of him making contact through someone else on an off-season trip to his native CR, and from there, learning that Wild Bill was interested in exploring playing in the US. Craig followed up on it, put him in touch with the right people and the Revs were able to get a pretty decent player. It wasn't a matter of him going out and scouting players the way Nicol did with Cancela and Vasquez.

And I would say that Danizinho is about as credible of a source as you'll find here.

Now whether there are "personality conflicts" or "philosophical differences" in the Revs FO, that wouldn't be a shock, as that kind of thing is likely to happen everywhere. If anything, it's a good thing to have people with at least a couple of viewpoints. If everyone is of the same mindset, no new ideas ever see the light of day.

Clearblue (My guess: Your initials are SG):

Rumors? Who's the one who pulled down his shorts and took a dump on Craig Tornberg's very fine reputation on this very thread? That's just plain wrong. Not to mention pathetic.

As for the LA deal, that's a fact, not some unsubstantiated rumor like what you posted about Tornberg. It happened. Talk to some of those who were there. I guess it was a figment of their imagination, eh. Talk to more than one person, too, and not some season ticket owner from Quincy or Needham.

    Rev Fans & Danizinho -

I'll repeat myself - I'm not interested to trying to speak negatively about people i've never met nor about things I only have 2nd or 3rd hand knowledge about. I'm a fan just like the rest of you.

Danizinho- if you feel ok with sharing negative stories about rev staffers, this is a free country. By the sound of things, everyone seems to feel what you write is pretty much true. We should all be so lucky to be as close to the inside as you.

As I've said before - let's be supportive of our Revs and good luck John Murphy!

First and foremost, much Love and big Props to John 'Murph' Murphy. I don't know of very many people who work harder at their chosen profession than Murph does. And, there isn't a person who loves his career or family more than Murph. True.

Again, clearblue, you're the one who took Craig Tornberg's reputation and turned it into in e-collateral damage by propagating this rumor mongering and saying he's making some sort of power play within the Revs. Craig's been here since Day 1 and this is the first sort of negative trash I've ever read about the guy. And, it's simply not true. Before you put that type of horse dung out there, perhaps you should be the one to go to the source.

I think I've achieved some respect from the folks here because [a] I'm around (at the matches and training), and my reputation for insights, information, future happenings, etc. has been fairly accurate. I've never advertised myself as an "insider." I'm not an outsider or casual observer either. I know people, many of whom are close to the situation at Gillette Stadium. Perhaps just as many who know the situation that's going on there, but don't work there. I talk to people (coaches, staffers and former staffers, players and former players, associates and former associates etc), too. They talk to me. If that makes me an insider, so be it. My information, for the most part, has substantance to it. And my reputation is what it is. I don't pass myself off as the Jeff Bradley Junior or Ridge Mahoney Lite, though. Now that we got that cleared up.

Facts is facts, and I stand by what I've posted. Ask anyone who was there - they'll tell you. That did happen and some of the members of the livery drivers union of Los Angeles will forever be Revs fans.

Again, and most importantly, Good Luck to Murph, and Best Wishes to the Revs.

    A few thoughts:

    1. Good luck to Murph in Cowtown. He'll be in charge out there by June. And furthermore, he deserves it. The guy worked his *ss off for the Revs, but there just wasn't much room for advancement, because I doubt that Nicol or Driver are going anywhere.

    2. It's kind of interesting how clearblue trashes Craig Tornberg on one post, and spends the next three saying that he's not interested in speaking negatively about people he's never met.

    3. The story about the cabs in Los Angeles? True.

OK, so the Revs GM made a logistical screw-up years ago as a team lackey. Is this a big deal?

This forum has been blessed with several well-informed sources of information - people who know people, people who talk to people, reporters, webmasters, etc.

clearblue has certainly been one of them in my book, along with Danizinho, Mike Marshall, John Lewis, ToMhilL, Dr. Jay and probably at least one more that I am misplacing.

We can certainly debate ad nauseum whether clearblue should have posted what he heard about Craig and his new position as GM. I think it is time to let it go.

Good luck to John Murphy, who is apparently a relative of mine through marriage. I just bought his book and was hoping for an autograph, but I guess my chances are pretty slim now. FWIW, his book is clearly not for us amateurs, but is an interesting introspective on the work of the team and still contains some useful coaching tips.

Here's hoping the many changes on the Revs, on field and off, result in continued improvement and at least one trophy this year.

For those of you 'in the know', please keep posting. Every tidbit is like a little more oxygen for those of us gasping for information.
