    This financial blogger thinks so...

This would certainly be pretty amusing. I can't imagine that the Sulzbergers would want to sell to Murdoch (who owns NewsCorp), but if the financial prognostications are true they may not have much of a choice.

Incidentally I don't think that Murdoch buying the NYT would necessarily result in its becoming Fox News print edition. As I've said before, Murdoch is a businessman, not a political hack--he started FNC not out of ideology but because he saw a market for it. If he were to buy the NYT, I have no idea if or how the paper would change ideologically. Possibly he would divert some of its resources to the Journal and then attempt to set up the Journal and the NYT as right-leaning and left-leaning national papers of record in quasi-compeititon with one another. Either way though, the weeping and gnashing of teeth from the left would be hysterical.

Indeed... funny story... The NYT is in junk bond range now and it would be good if it had new owners...

Are they just now realizing that they can't spread propaganda and make money at the same time?

It's a very fine move; more people get to engage in Rupert's virtual reality.:)

I wouldn't recommend reading any newspaper controlled by Murdoch, they're invariably shite.

Buy a newspaper now? What? Can't find anyone selling an 8-track manufacturer?
