Yes, they endorse a "ton of things". What you are overlooking - or choosing to ignore - is that 75% of the $1bn they rake in through these endorsements and cobranding are in healthcare, the largest earner being from their deal with United Healthcare. In fact, that one deal brings in 3 times their annual income from memberships. And it just so happens that AARP's biggest lobbying of government is for... healthcare.

    From a 2022 article:

"“I don’t have a problem with AARP endorsing travel packages,” said Marilyn Moon, a health policy analyst who worked for the group in the 1980s. But when AARP lobbies on Medicare issues while profiting off partnerships with those who are marketing to Medicare patients, “that certainly is a problem,” Moon said."

AARP defends its arrangement but something smells:

"John Rother, who left AARP in 2011 after more than two decades as its policy chief, said business interests were “never a consideration” in these decisions. “I can absolutely say that was never the case,” Rother said. “We separated those operations.”
But that alliance raises alarms among critics who see a conflict of interest that undermines the group’s credibility to speak for all seniors on critical Medicare policy issues.
AARP “is in the insurance business,” said Bruce Vladeck, who ran the Medicare program for several years during the Clinton administration. “There ought to be accountability and visibility about it,” he said."

I'm sure they do but it's irrelevant to the question as to whether AARP has a conflict of interest in its healthcare lobbying. And let's remmber that AARP's clout is that it's membership is a relatively large set of voters as members.

This is entirely inappropriate. And also what everyone is thinking.

Yes, that's been an issue with AARP for a while. The NRA has a similar story. At one time they advocated for responsible gun ownership and laws. They were approached by gun companies and turned into what they are now.

Can't confirm, but I just read that the CEO that got whacked had a DUI conviction. So, his lawyer should just argue that all he did was kill a convicted criminal. Worked for Rittenhouse.

I actually tried to send thoughts and prayers, but I'm out of network, so... DENIED.

I'd be willing to wager that the police tracked him using cellular service. But they aren't supposed to be doing that at large. So they made up a McDonalds worker recognizing him as a fig leaf to avoid headaches. That's pretty standard practice.

The Guardian article is the first time I heard/saw this. Possibly a fig leaf wrapped in skulduggery.

And? Again, you seem to not understand that AARP is a senior advocacy group. Why would they endorse an inferior product?

That's pretty vague when the specifics of what AARP is lobbying for are left out.

AARP is absolutely NOT in the insurance business. That's why they endorse UHC Medicare products.

And again, people look st AARP for advice on a multitude of things. Medicare can be a complex issue for people to figure out on their own so they look to the largest senior advocacy group to direct them to the best product, which is almost always UHC for a few different reasons.

Is it just UHC that you dislike or is it all Medicare Insurance providers?
