This is why I don't live in London... Terrible, terrible thing. The city is given the games and then during the G8 conference. Whether or not its all linked, you can't say... Not sure amount how many are dead. Reports are very sketchy at the minute. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/050707/140/fmtu4.html
Scary stuff. I'm in Fitzrovia right now. You can hear the sirens (Russel square, where the bus explosion happened is nearby) continuesly. Telephone service is overloaded. You have to try a few times before you can get connected. Calls to mobiles are useless. But the internet is strangely working fine
I think the worst of it is over, everyone has been evacuated and are no doubt going home now. The Underground system is completely shut down. So there is utter chaos on the public services right about now. The emergency services are segregating everything and trying to get bodies out probably... *jesus christ* Bus, is just twisted metal!! 2 fatalities at Aldergate...comfirmed.
The worse thing is - I have said, is that the Tube is shut down throughout London. Therefore, there is mass evacuation on the lines... http://uk.news.yahoo.com/050707/325/fmu2g.html
Cnn has a prelim timeline of events http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/07/07/london.timeline/index.html
Yes, all the mobile phone network were down for an hour which added to the confusion. All the explosions went off around 9am.
Blair to make a statement at 12.00 BST (in six minutes' time). Deaths put at 20, injuries at "hundreds".
I'm not going to be naive and say that the death toll probably won't rise much higher, but I sure hope it doesn't anyway. Judging from the descriptions of some of the attacks this sounds very bad.
Thanks Was curious if there were secondary attacks meant to strike at the first responders My prayers go out to all our friends in the UK
So I woke up this morning and instead of hearing the radio DJs laughing I hear them being serious. Not a pleasant way to wake up. This whole thing is absolutely disgusting. How spineless do you have to be to put bombs in the God d@mned subway? And did london do something I missed that pissed someone off? Oh well fvck them, bombs or no bombs I'm still heading over next month
They are saying this have been more of a way to cripple transport and physically shake the city up, rather than actually out and out kill people... Whether or not that is a good thing I don't know. Maybe more to come, God I hope not. But regardless, there is going to be some serious smackdown in Parliment over what the reaction should be...
