I'd played with the idea of getting one. But then I found out that the ITFC DVDs (the primary reason I was thinking of getting one) came region free so I decided against the additional costs. I had a few websites with tons of information and message boards...but don't have them any more. A quick Google search should find you plenty of info though.
I have a Sampo... it also has a built in converter so you can use it on any tv... quite handy works like a charm Cantona---
I got a JVC about 3 weeks ago with a PAL to NTSC converter and no problems so far. I would caution you to stay away from the low-end brands because of craftmanship issues. The site www.220-electronics.com has good info about what to look for in a multi-region DVD player
Here's a place to see if the player you already own is easily convertible or not...both of my home players were made region free just by using codes found here and my remote control: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks You may also want to ask around on BigSoccer's Music, Movies & TV board...there are multiple threads from the past about this stuff.
I have computer DVD with TV video I/O. I have a software crack on DVD's that are outside of North America so that it allows me to watch all the French porn DVD's.
Footix's link is a good one. A lot of the mid-range on up DVD players are already multi-region, the manufacturer just locks them to appease the studios. My Philips progressive scan was unlocked in about three seconds with the remote.
