    From the Associated Press:
    {BC-SOC--MLS-Earthquakes-Mulrooney,120}<
{Earthquakes All-Star Mulrooney out for season with broken ankle}<
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Richard Mulrooney, an All-Star midfielder for the MLS defending champion San Jose Earthquakes, will miss the rest of the season with a broken right ankle.<
Mulrooney was injured during San Jose's 1-0 loss at Los Angeles last Saturday. He played the entire match, but felt pain after the game.<
Mulrooney, who had one goal and eight assists in 26 matches this season, will undergo surgery on Thursday to repair one of the bones. A four-year MLS veteran, he was named to the Western Division All-Star team earlier this season.<
San Jose and Los Angeles meet again in their season finale on Saturday, with the winner taking first place in MLS and home-field advantage in the upcoming playoffs.<

Just saw the same thing in my in-box.

    A massive blow, yes.

But a dagger in terms of repeating as champions? No, far from it...

Just move Corrales to d-mid and bring Russell back in as the right-sided winger opposite Lagos.

IMO, the team was at its most dangerous last season when Lagos and Russell complemented one another on the respective flanks.

I'd hate to see Mulrooney suffer a season-ending injury, certainly-- but if the team's attack needs a shot in the arm, this might be a blessing in disguise...

    Cheers,
    William

It is official. The 'Quakes have reported it-- on the front page of www.sjearthquakes.com....

No other official link as of yet-- but as I said, I've already received the official release in my e-mail. And from Ringo's first post, I think the Associated Press would be a credible source. :)

    Cheers,
    William

The only thing to do is do what babytiger suggested: put Ian at right mid and Ramiro at d-mid; if Jeff plays, then we can have Jeff & Eddie as central defense and put Zak at right back. I think this will bode well for us but Eddie & Ariel have to be very careful they don't get any yellows.

    It rhymes with duck.

I think it's high time for hooliganism. Without eternal vigilance, it can happen here.

Someone should cook Fish at the tailgate this weekend... Anyone barbeque Fish Sticks?

Someone is going to step in big time--right now I can't picture who, except maybe Corrales but he's more offensive minded, wheras Lionheart is more of the defensive set/destroyer/marker type.

    Cheers!

Two huge blows in a matter of days for the QUAKES, not to mention personally for Richard.

I hang my head low. :(

Oh, how soon you all forget... my BBQ'd marinated salmon, a.k.a., "best piece of tail in town"? :D

Too bad I'm 8,000 miles away.

Even I know you can't BBQ fish sticks.

It's to state the obvious that this is a HUGE blow for the Quakes. It's like the Fire losing Armas - a tough hole to fill.

Another option is to move back Golden Boy back to Attack-mid and put DeRo up front, though this combo hasn't produced much earlier in the season.

    Too bad....

As an outsider, I would think that this is a major blow for your team.. The Mulrooney/Ekelund central midfield partnership was for my money the most fluid and dependable duo in the league...

Take Mulrooney out of that equation and you will see diminished results IMHO...

Good luck against the Galaxatives on Saturday, I will be pulling for you and hopefully things will fall so we (United) can meet in the first round of the playoffs...

crap. this blows. Now the entire line-up will be screwy next game, w/ Jimmy and esp. Richard out. What delightful timing.....4 days before our biggest game of the year and playoffs. :(
