Well, this is kind of a long-shot, but looking an Hejduk, unable to do anything useful in attack, and Klein who was an ok contributor, but still not a star ... would it be possible for our own Brian Mullan to make it to the Nats eventually (if he'll continue to produce for the Quakes the way he does now)?
NO, never, not gonna happen. We have plenty of guys who sky crosses, and miss sitters with the regularity of a sunrise. No way.
He's only 25 years old ... There's still couple of years till he reaches his prime. Regular starting in MLS can help.
If he could just refine his touch and he can keep up the level of play Id say yes. I dont think people appreciate what hes done for us this year so far.
Just because Hejduk sucks it doesn't make me want to put someone else out there who can't consistently put in at least a decent cross. The only game I've ever seen him play live in was the recent quakes/galaxy game and I only remember him putting in one good cross out of about ten. I'm willing to give him some more time before I make a solid judgement, but right now he doesn't make me think national team when I watch him play.
Chris Klein has lost more skill than Mullan will ever have- and he is still a heck of a lot better. U B Crazy.
I agree that Mullan's highly underrated. Here's someone who played well as a rookie, immediately after being drafted, was sidelined with injuries and surgery for an extended period, and couldn't reestablish his place in egotistical Los Angeles once he was healthy again. It's just now that he's returning back to form. Confidence grows with the right team and coach. And this is only his second FULL year in MLS. He's got lots more to give to the team and we can look forward to that as this season progresses. I would hope that Bruce Arena gives Mullan a look and see.
I don't think so. Mullan has never shown anything close to USMNT form. Heck, he hasn't been a full-time MLS starter before, right? And from what he's shown this season on the Quakes, he's nowhere near USMNT form. That's almost like asking if I, a 35 year old club player with a bad knee, will be making the Quakes roster next year. Not very likely.
I think Mullan has been a great addition for us ... but there's a big jump between being a good MLS player and National teamer. also, klein sucks. if it was between klein and an old shoe for the midfield, i'd toss the shoe out there and take my chances.
Spot on. Four games with the Quakes and people are asking if he needs to be on the US National Team? Mullan represents the kick and run era of US soccer. We're trying to incorporate talent, flair, and skill now.
