Starting June 30 MSG and FSNY will become pay channels on the Cablevision system. Costs are $1.95 for each channel per month. I don't think I need to get into details about how bad this is for the Metro.
From the letter I got from Cablevision it sounded like the system was changing everywhere. I guess its just Cablevision of Westchester thats changing.
You are the victim of the continued shenanigans between Cablevision and the YES network. WHen they finally worked out the deal in April to allow YES to be carried on Cablevision systems, they agreed that the channel would be provided to Cablevision customers on the same terms as FSNY and MSG. Cablevision had originally wanted to offer YES as a premium channel to all of its customers and YES wanted to be a basic tier channel. Turns out that the Cablevision system was cobbled together from a bunch of smaller outfits purchased by Cablevision over the years. Some offer FSNY and/or MSG as basic tier channels and some have always charged a premium for those channels. It looks as if Cablevision is now moving to make FSNY & MSG premium channels on all of its systems. Dollars to donuts that this is driven by a desire to send out a hearty FU to the YES folks. Not to be left out, you get to take part in the festivities by having your cable bill increase if you want to keep FSNY, MSG and/or YES. The moral to the story is buy a satellite dish and be rid of the cable people forever. Cable is a scummy business and the Dolans/Cablevision are the cream of the crop.
