Mr. Carrieri Speaks of His Love for Coaches I hope Chris keeps talking like this: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=265113&cc=5901
Holy toledo, well if there were any questions about why Yallop shipped him out of SJ, there shouldn't be now. Yeah, he's Mr. Sacrifice-for-the-Team, alright. Its a reminder how fortunate we are to be able to watch Donovan, who actually does work for the team. Tony
I like it! Funniest part is when he actually uses the phrase "I don't wanna say....", since when? He's probably ruining team chemistry with interviews like that but i'll read every one of them!
"Its a reminder how fortunate we are to be able to watch Donovan, who actually does work for the team." Donovan is a definitely a superb team player, but Chris had a higher goals/minutes played last year. Landon had to be threatened by Bruce to get it done in SJ or there's no national team for him. Obviously that would never happen, but you still have to admire Chris's hunger.
If QuakeMagic.com doesn't interview him when he's here and ask him about his departure, they are crazy......this guy is a writer/reporters wet dream. He is the anti-agoos interview. No cliches......i like that.
that was great stuff. tune in later for more of this "exciting" interview. a younger and brasher Wynalda, it seems.
I'm sorry, but if he were on my team, he'd find himself parked on the bench until he got his "attitude" right. I don't care how many goals he's scored. No one, and I mean no one, is bigger than their team. What could his teammates possibly think of him saying he single-handedly scored three goals in a game or single-handedly won the game. I'd walk off the pitch and let him play 11 v 1 - see how single-handedly he does. It's one thing to be hungry; it's another thing to be a complete idiot, jerk. I cant imagine any team or coach wanting a player like that. How refreshing is the contrast with Donovan, who despite his success at the international level as well as MLS, who constantly gives praise to his team, his coaches, and everybody else who has helped him. He recognizes he hasn't done it on his own. Carrieri is a real case. Glad he doesn't wear Earthquake blue. But it was a fun read!!
Hella-funny that he realizes he's in a political situation where he has to "bite (his) tongue"...and then proceeds to ignore his own counsel...classic.
Plus, with an attitude like that, he can kiss any look from Bruce Arena good-bye - if he even fancied himself getting a look for the Nats.
I can' wait until part 2 tomorrow. Think he'll say anything about his wonderful time with the Earthquakes?
wow. i like this guy, i really do. it's awesome to see stupidity and tactlessness in all of its glory. you go boy. just like it is huh? everyone who has any team/sports sense knows that an attitude like his can kill a team. but whatever -- all that shite sorts itself out in the end.
PumaJ: 1)Donovan is still younger than CC. 2)As someone pointed out in the US Mens forum, you could fill in the name of any national team regular and Arena probably gave him that same speech, its that Donovan apparently took it to heart. And as you point out, the chances of Arena dropping Donovan are pretty slim. 3)Gotta think Hankinson is really looking forward to practice. Tony
Great read!! I think that all the players on Colorado are just frustrated with the inane lineup that Mr. Hanki put out there for game 1. That being said, Christopher has a reputation for being a horses _____
I think Carrieri's an ass, but what a breath of fresh air. American soccer needs more posturizing, more attitude. The watered down "offend-nobody" interviews that most players and coaches give are boring and do nothing to create an identity for the sport on the national landscape. Sound bytes make news, and attitude makes sound bytes. Now if there's any way to get Landon to not sound like he's OD'd on prozac before his interviews...
I love the part where his own coach tries him at left mid (read: to get the best 11 on the field), he cries about that. Then goes on to bash the Crew for sitting Cunningham, saying coaches should put the best 11 on the field? Contradict much?
Priceless. So. What's the betting line on how long he lasts at Colorado? I say he gets traded during the season when it becomes obvious that the Rapids won't make the playoffs.
Sometimes when driving through the Central Valley, the fresh air is a little too rich with livestock smells.
There was a great quote from Barca's Luis Enrique right after Louis van Gaal was canned. He said something to the effect that, "of course the players are going to say we support the coach, what do you think we're going to say?" I guess CC wasn't watching that part of Bull Durham when Crash gives 'Nuke' the interview tips. "I'm just here to help the team." Tony
RIGHT ON! Now that's what I like to hear! Put him on the MLS Wrap show and get rid of Wheelock & Harkes! I HOPE YOU'RE LISTENING FRANK YALLOP! START ARTURO ALVAREZ!!!!!!
Or more accurately, "... who's going to tell it like I think it is." - which is rarely, if ever, the same thing.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
