Mozer If you were referring to Mozer, he played for Benfica after Mengo, then Olympique Marseille, then Kashima Antlers of the J-League, nowadays he owns a couple of restaurants in Lisbon, where he lives year-round. He has 35 caps, played in the 1990 WC, but never scored a goal for the seleção. He has won the Carioca in 1981 and 86, Brasileiro in 82 and 83, Libertadores and Mundial Interclubes in 81, with Flamengo. Portuguese em 89, with Benfica; French in 90, 91 e 92, with Olympique Marseille; and the Japonese in 96 with Kashima Antlers.
And if you were referring to Santos Mozart, he is a 22-year-old midfielder who moved from Flamengo to Reggina two years ago.
This is the Mozart that played for the Olympic Team and in Copa América. He came to Flamengo and left. I don't know exactly the situation but read recently that Flamengo had a win in the Courts regarding Mozart's case... Maybe like Athirson he may return to Flamengo after losing in the Courts.
Cheers, Santos Mozart is the one I was thinking of - big things were expected of him aand now obscurity...?
Well, it depends if you consider starting and being a key player on a Serie A team to be "obscurity". Granted, Reggina is a struggling team, and seems likely to get relegated right back to Serie B again - but maybe he'll attract the attention of a bigger team this season. Or else he can go back to Flamengo.
FYI, Mozart helped Reggina to a 2-1 victory yesterday with a splendid through pass from midfield onto the stride of the forward as he entered the box for the winning goal. Of course, he also was partly at fault on the goal scored by the other team as he let the player run by him into the box to score on a cross.
I got to see Mozart play for Flamengo many times. I'm curious to see how he has progressed. He had some flashes of great talent as a playmaker, mostly with his passes. Though he was never afraid of being physical, his defense was usually weak...
Part of the problem... That was Flamengo's problem, too many playmakers/attacking midfielders and not enough defense...
No. I didn't mean it like that becos I know if he does well in Italy then BADA BOOOM - but it's not easy over there and a lot of potential talent has been buried in the land of the 'lock'. For me Mozart was and still is a future 1st team Selecao' player.
Hopefully the rumour will turn into fact - which will be good progress if he's "orchestrating" Roma's or Parma's midfield.
