    Tie between Armas and Beasley.

Neither are that skillful, but somehow everyone thinks they're two of our greatest players. The best thing that happened to the US in 2002 was Armas getting injured before the World Cup started. He stinks.

And Beasley is fast. That's really about it. His finishing is OK, but his only move is to outrun people, and when he does so his crossing is weak at best. That said, I like Beasley and really hope he improves his game because he certainly can. Armas, on the other hand, should be retired from international competition. He's horrible.

I might create some controversy but I have to say Donovan. He is good but he really doesn't finish well for the USMNT and always complains on the field for a foul whenever he falls around oposing players. Don't get me wrong I think he is good but he isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread that people make him up to be.

Depends on how you go about defining "overrated".

If you were talking least deserving of a cap, I'd say Chris Albright. Like I've said, it seems like BA is bending over backwards to sneak him into the squad.

Albright, even though everyone hates him the fact that there is probably someone in the world who thinks that this guy is anything about A-league quality makes him overated.

Seriously, Armas can't be overrated b/c everyone is ragging on him. Convey, maybe...

I don't know if overrated is the word, but Mastro (great world cup, but...)needs to show it more consistently before I believe he lives up to all his hype.

I think Armas is the most underrated player on the US team. He does the dirty work, but is always therte to help the D.

I'm probably going to get thrashed for this, but I have to say Claudio Reyna.

Reyna would be okay as a defensive mid, but he always slows the attacks, his passes are only mediocre at this point, and his shots and decision-making are atrocious.

For whatever reason, the US falls apart when he isn't on the field, so he needs to be there, but his play doesn't warrant much more playing time. Put that together with how everyone loves him, that makes him the most overrated. Close second? Gibbs, he just hasn't proven himself yet, though he may turn out to be brilliant.

Yup DeMarcus Beasly. He's fast and has decent at best finishing skills but after that... Chris Armas just plain sucks... and so does bobby convey at left back anyway (please dont play him there anymore arena). Heydude and earnie stewart should never be called in for nat duty again.

we all know now that kirovski sucks but when i first got into this whole nats thing whenever i heard about him i would get excited expecting to see a flawless display of soccer...no FOOTBALL since he spent so much time in england. what crock that turned out to be. now i would agree that it's dr. kick-n-run really fast...TheMarcus Beasley.

but i mean that in the best way possible.

I'm hoping the last few Stewart call ups were only to get Ernie to cap #100.

I think Armas is crap. Vanney never has impressed. Hejduk has the touch of a hyperactive 12 year old on a piss poor 7th grade team. Wolf shouldnt be making the roster. That said, the ghost of Jeff Agoos is still the worst player in U.S. history...

so at this point these are the players that are over-rated:

Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, Bobby Convey, Chris Armas, Claudio Reyna, and Frankie Hejduk among others. Wouldn't be perhaps easier to name the players that AREN'T overrated?

Who is the best American fullback in MLS?

Of course, that eliminates several teams because they play 3-5-2. But still....

    Oh yeah, thread topic.

If X+Y=17, tell me what integer X is. It's impossible.

    Get it?

First tell me where everyone is rated, and THEN AND ONLY THEN can we decide who is overrated.

Mods, now that I've answered every over- and under-rated question that has ever and will ever be asked about everything, you can close the thread.

Convey is clearly the most overrated player on these boards. You can't say that Beasley is overrated, because most of the people on these boards seem to think he is a one trick pony. hell, in a poll on bs a few months ago, 50% of the people thought that Convey is/would be better than Donovan. And that would be based on what exactly? Guys that regularly take abuse, by definition are not OVERrated. Convey on the other hand, enjoys seemingly universal praise on these boards, and if you attempt to rationally criticize his game, you are accused of being IRrational. For a guy who has never done anything spectacular for either club or country, i find the praise for him to be over the top. Example: in the midst of having a 2 goal game against Grenada last week, I found myself defending Beasley staying in the game. Why? Because half the people were screaming for Beasley to be subbed out for Convey because in their words the fact that "Beasley can't cross" was why we were struggling. of course Beasley immediately nailed 3 crosses right into the center of the box in the next 10 minutes. People have also been screaming for Convey to be the left back, pushing Boca to the center with Pope, thus leaving Gibbs out of the mix. Wonderful, our most athletic center back out ...... just to get Convey in the game (who by the way was terrible against Grenada today). This is a hands down winner: Bobby Convey is clearly the most overrated US player by the fans.
