I'm going to go with Xavi of Barcelona who I think has been the best midfielder this season.

Adriano and Steven Gerrard seem toi be getting better and better also but, they did well last year as well so it'd be harder for them to be 'most improved this year'

    Submit yours.

Hmm, not sure I can agree here. Gerrard carried Liverpool all of last season and was the reason they even managed to get in the CL, he was awesome for them. His Euro 04 was poor by his standard but, he hasn't supoerseded last years Gerrard with his exploits so far into this season. Don't forget also he has been out for 2months this season and has only just returned to the team.

I'm going to say Eto'o...He just wasn't the same player last season as he is now.

What are you talking about? He was one of the leading scorers in La Liga, He is only scoring more because he has better players behind him.

The most improved players from last season are Xavi, Adriano, Thomas Graveson, and Lee Carsley.

Absolutely. Last year he played 28 games(most of which were off the bench since Chevanton was still there) and he only scored 3 goals. This year in his first 15 games he has already scored 9 goals and he's in the hunt for Serie A top scorer. Unfortunately for Lecce his improvement almost certainly means he will be sold at the end of the season.

I would say 'fortunately'. They got him for little money and he's going to be sold for huge amounts.

BTW, I can't remember any player of 18 that scored this many goals in Serie A after such few games.

no way is it xavi. xavi has always been good, but went to excellent when davids arrived and has been so since.

i wouldnt say eto'o either. he is just getting better service.

Every nation has great football talents as welll as most imporved players by their own. Since it is hard to find who is the most improved one in the whole world. I am gonna pick one each from each country regardless of ages.

First, as for England, Rooney seemed to be most improved one.
Second, as for Italy, it should be Cassano
Third, for Netherlands, it must be Van der Vaart and Sneider
    Fourth, Torres for Spain
Fifth, Postiga and Deco for Portugal
    Sixths, Giuly for France.
    Sevenths, Mornar for Croatia
Eights, Adu and landon Donovan for the United States
    Nineths, Ali Karimi for Iran
Tens, it should Ibrahimovis for Sweden.
Elevents, Tevez and Cavanehi for Argentina
Then for Brazil, Ronaldinho should be most improved and most marvelous in this year.

Did Stewart Downing play last season?

    How about the Everton midfielders

    Tim Cahill
    Lee Carsley
    Russell Osman
    Thomas Graveson (sp)

They could be up for most improved player

Right now Xavi is the best midfielder in Europe. He wasn't the best midfielder in Europe last season. He just seems to be getting better and better regardless of opposition and competition.

I think he's a better player then he was last season, most definitely. If he carries that form for the whole season he'll be touted as top 3 CM in the world, he's never been touted as that in his career before.

hes been going between reserves and first team since 01/02 iirc.

i agree with osman but he needs to be more consistant.

no doubt they are both having great seasons, but
i always thought gravesen was class just never got the press...
and carsley is 30...lil too old to be considered still improving imo.

valid argument, but i respectfully disagree. before his injury last yr he was awesome for parma. that was up till october or so i believe. they were top 5 with him and he was playing excellently, without him they dropped a lot of spaces.
i agree that his performances are better, but imo that is due to his team, not him improving as a player.

basically i would say that this is crap.

respectfully disagree. he was just as great as a player last year, but now has a much greater supporting cast.
he could very will be the most improved for this season, if by the end of the year he is finishing his chances.

present xavi vs xavi with davids = the same level to me.

imo he was the best midfielder in the world by the end of last season. i think a lot of people who watched barcelona regularly last year would agree.

Nah, There were more contenders last year some of which were definitely Steven Gerrard, Pirlo and Kaka. Xavi has taken his form from last year, made it better and transferred it to the Spanish NT and Barca in the CL..that's massive progress. Not only that, even tho he is now getting international attention as a strong player he is still performing at the same high level.

His achievements this season are superseding those of last, he is living up to new found status, easily.

I think it is easier to 'get away' with being good when you're not a marked man on your team but once you do start getting the attention your ability warrents it becomes a whole different ball-game. That's why this years Xavi is more special then last years, imo.

Same test people like Robben will go thru this season to next.
