For a one-top formation, it has to be striker for me. I think the one-top forward is relied on more than any other player for the team's ultimate success. For very defensive/counter-attacking teams, I think the central defender(s) is obviously the most important because they control the tempo & rhythm of the team's game more than any other. For a totally offensive-minded team, then I think the attacking mid is the most important. For all other formation/systems, central/defensive mid is the most important.
I agree with you. Unless you have a good n°10 which is clearly the most important player on a field if u decide to play with one, back midfield are the most important players. They are the key because it is ur only way to get more the ball than ur opponent. The ones like Vieira, Davids, Makelele, Petit, Seedorf, etc ...
I think it would be the goalkeeper because he can direct EVERYBODY! But you are both right to a degree as well.
Not necessarily. France won the World Cup with only Stephane Guivarc'h up front, and he was hardly a world beater. Same with Valencia and John Carew/Miguel Angel Angulo in their Liga Primera-winning season.
Re: Re: Most Important Position on the Field On the other hand, in both '98 and '02, France looked absolutely lost when Zidane wasn't on the field. But to answer the thread question, the most important position on the field is the one that's closest to the ball.
Of course it's the keeper! What would a team be without a good, solid brick wall? Rein mais le Quad! OPArsenal
