Most enjoyable teams to watch: For neutrals and non-neutrals who can be objective :)

So most people have opinions on who they think are the best teams, or many folks have a favorite team. But if you were/are a neutral, what are the most 'enjoyable' teams to watch? By enjoyable, I mean a combination of factors like stadium, fans, game atmosphere, skill, talent, star power, history, etc. Not just whether or not they are a good team.

    As 'objectively' I can:

    1) LA Galaxy- For some reason I love watching galaxy games. Landon, love him or hate him...is a star, and a draw for casual fans. Cobi has star power too. The kid Findlay has got promise. Now for the 'other' stuff...the Beckham, Zidane? hype is a big draw. They have a great stadium, great fans, a lot of history, and are in one of the biggest soccer cities in the country.

    2) DC United - before this year I would have them at #1. But Freddy being gone, a lack of a DP (Even though I'm all for the Freds, Emilios, Kpenes, Addlery's and Kasal type players), and a dismal start knocks them down a notch.

    3) Revs - Taylor is another love him/hate him type star, Shalrie is a star, and there always seems to be some sort of controversy in Revs games. Another thing is, I don't know what it is but Boston area teams seem to always have a history of being at or near the top of their leagues in terms of popularity, talent, and success. See Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots, and definitely Revs (although no MLS cup yet). Its like if you are a Boston team, you automatically are in the elite historical teams of your league, or close to it. I have no idea about the Boston Bruins.

    4) NYRB - This one is all about the personalities and less about the fans or the stadium. Arena. Altidore. Reyna. Angel. Wattereus. Mathis. As far as MLS goes, those are always topics of conversation. Oh...and they seem to be having a good start or something.

    5) Fire - Pretty good fans, nice stadium, usually a good game when they play, Blanco coming.

    6) Dynamo - Despite so/so start, Ching and DeRo are always a draw. Defending champs. Usually fun atmosphere and fan support, even without SSS.

    7) Chivas - The 'latin feel' is a draw, and they are fun to watch as a team, but I don't usually get excited about them unless they are playing LA or DC.

    8) Toronto - stadium, fans, hype of a new team in the league, curiousity to see how they do.

    9) FCD - Controversy with Ruiz is always interesting. Not the greatest, not the worst.

Tie-10) KC, Columbus & Colorado - good teams, with some great players, but for some reason, I don't get excited when I hear these two teams are playing.

    13) RSL - This team has dedicated fans, star power in Freddy and Cunningham and Pope, "interesting storyline" with the all time league leader in goals now coaching, and is looking forward to a new stadium. However, this is a case where a team can have all the 'extra' factors, but a lack of making a real dent on the pitch in a few years, unlike other expansion teams (Chicago, Chivas) makes me feel ho-hum about watching them.

Again DISCLAIMER...this is if you were a neutral, or if you were trying to say, recruit a neutral to watch MLS, and you wanted to show them the teams/games that provide the best overall experience on the field and in atmosphere, drama, storylines. No disrespect to anyone's favorite teams, as I will and do watch every MLS game that comes on.

    What are your rankings?

I have found that this year KC has been my favorite team to watch outside of my team.

My least favorite teams to watch have been Columbus and RSL (their field gives me a headache)

If I wanted to show a neutral a game to get them interested in MLS as of this week, then it'd be between KC/Chivas/NYRB. These teams are playing the best attacking soccer (esp. KC, despite the terrible attendance the columbus game was a phenomenal display of attacking soccer in MLS) right now. An American who you're trying to introduce to pro. soccer in the US needs to see the tension involved in a match fulls of chances. I'd say these teams in this order would be the best bets. DC at our height last season would be the best team in recent memory for such a circumstance. For example, I could imagine that a lot of people left the Real Madrid friendly fairly impressed with MLS (I'm not trying to say anything about the meaning of the result other than, in the least, it was an exciting game and some small portion of this was in fact due to DC).

P.P.S. I miiiiight recommend NE, but I just don't see their soccer as being as 'attractive to watch.' And for full disclosure, I haven't seen much of Chicago this year.

    NY is playing quality soccer.

Chivas is exciting because of their adventurous attcking play

LA is a decent side to catch due to Donovan and they always seem to have an energy about them.

Least enjoyable is the Crew, RSL, Colorado, and NE.

I don't know how the team that has scored 2 more goals than the next closest team and that is averaging over 12 shots a game is classified as a boring team.

    HI
if your talking fluidity of the game, then it's NE, DC, NY, and KC

all west teams play a loose game, the passing is not crisp, possession changes too often, and on top of it, the crowd makes you feel like you're watching a state softball tournament or something. But that's pretty much for all games.

Personally I would rather watch a crisp 90 minutes of football with no goals, then 90 minutes of crap with 4 or 5 goals. (I would refer you to the Dynamo/Colorado game last night)

Oh yeah, don't show any newcomers a west vs. west game, they'll laugh at the crappy play.

I agree 100% with this statement, but that is why Americans can't grasp the sport, too hard to understand a good game without lots of scoring.

I have to agree with ArkansasHoopFan.

The wizards have been a really great team to watch. If Eddie could finish a tenth of the chances he gets then they would be a scoring machine.

Good passing, great run ups to goal and just flat out attacking soccer!!

    Hail Curt Onalfo!

It depends on whether the game is home or away.

Columbus and New York play far more conservatively when not at home.

So ... NYRB, DCU (they have picked it up), Chicago, NE (with Christman and Smith), KC, Houston (athletic but chaotic), Chivas, LAG.

    Colorado and Dallas are unwatchable.

    RSL was a fun disaster.

Were you being sarcastic? The Celtics back in the day, sure, but until the last 6 years or so Boston sports teams were second only to Philly in terms of futility. The Patriots? Seriously?

NYRB have been my favorite team to watch this year. Mainly because I love watching Altidore and when Richards plays he usually is pretty entertaining.

Right now I have no MLS team to support so I think I have been pretty non-biased, however, I have not seen the fire play yet.

    Great to watch: NY
    LA
KC as long as EJ's on form

    Could use alot less: Colorado
    Chivas
    DC
Dynamo i'm used to MLS paced player turnover, with houston it's been the same crew for ages. Good for the team's fans, dull for neutrals

Always watch, but not sure what i'll get, which adds to the fun:
    Dallas
    RSL
    Crew

Dull since you know what will happen:
NE/Chicago - always pretty good, not that exciting play usually
    Toronto - will suck

I'm going with the general consensus here. So far: Metro, KC and LAG lately have been playing fluid, attractive football. Metro get points because save for last weeks referee induced collapse, they have an excellent keeper, and a real solid defense.

DCU has the potential to be grouped with the top three, but seem to want to force things up the middle, rather than relying on any sort of wing play. If they get clicking, they should play attractive footie also.

The thing with Metro this year, is that with Angel coming on, and Mathis and Altidore in form...this may be a team that will just constantly barrage the nets.

If Arena decided to go all out attacking, you potentially have a 4-1-2-1-2 with Mathis as the #10, Altidore and Angel up top, and Van Den Bergh and Schopp/Richards on the wing. That is scary for any team to be facing down. In addition, there's a lot of depth on this team, and not a lot of dropoff when someone gets hurt. KC on the other hand is a little short on the bench when EJ can't play. LAG are going to be getting better once Beckham arrives. Also, this kid up top Findley looks like he could be a spark plug for the Gals (and this guy has some serious ups).

Thats why boston as a collective is second to only NY in terms of Championships. And thats only due in part because the Yankees have 26 titles.. hell the rest of the NY teams pretty much blow.

    Anyway back on Topic.

Chivas, NE, DCU... Those are really the three teams I get ambitious about watching. But I love MLS so if theres an MLS game on, Its on my TV. I dont really think anyone is "boring" to watch. If they suck, they suck that doesnt make them boring, just makes them bad :)

Uhm.. Many of the first sports' teams were founded in the East Coast. Half the country hasn't even competed yet before you cup-less choketards. :D

But for the second part, I agree with you.

i know, that's why that "baseball" will never catch on here. also why i predict arena league to start outselling the nfl within the next year or so, they score way more points. and who watches that nascar? i mean 3 hours where nothing happens? nothing but a flash in the pan.

i love soccer. in the last twelve months i have become borderline obsessed with it. but i am tired of soccer fans and their elitist attitude about the sport. there are subtle strategies and nuances in every sport if you know it enough to follow them. the beauty of soccer is the game within the game, the same can be said for baseball, basketball, football, yes, even nascar (despite the fact that i find it boring as sin).

the point is, americans are plenty intelligent enough to grasp soccer, but for whatever reason the country as a whole has not yet done it. don't fool yourself into thinking you are somehow superior to football fans or hockey fans because you love soccer. it's an ignorant and pretentious stance. don't be that guy.

FWIW, as a neutral supporter i have enjoyed watching DCU and NYRB the most this year, all though i do love the crowd in the home depo center.

Dont blame me cause the west coast are all flaming followers. Thats not our fault here in the east.. You guys will always be second. Second to find a new land, second to.. no wait you guys still havent been to war :) Ill go a step farther, the North East is where its at. We faught and won not one.. but TWO wars for this country.. Break down..

    Professional sports Championships..
    East: Many
    West: Few

    Wars
    East: 2
    West: 0

    Wars won
    East: 1 1/2*
West: 0 (no killing the indians doesnt count as a war, im sorry)

NOTE: * Indicates that the south east is inferiour to the north east. because quite simply, we won...

    NOTE: Im just playing around...

I'm curious why several people here have said New England plays boring style football. Can someone explain that?
