I fell asleep on the couch last night....had CBS on....I woke up around 115am or so, and saw Morrissey performing......Did this really happen? at first I thought I woke up back in high school, but the shorter hair and beer belly proved otherwise.... My questions....Is he still performing? Does he have a new album out? and what show was he on? I suppose I could find all this out myself, just being lazy.
It was a repeat. He was on earlier this year. He still tours. No new album is out cause he doesn't have a recording contract. He does have an album worth of songs ready once he gets a contract though. Last I heard Jade Tree (which would be a terrible fit) tried to sign him but it didn't work.
he was on the late late show with craig kilborn about a month or so ago....two nights in a row, he performed a new song, first of the gang, and everyday is like sunday
I thought it was cool how he got on there and just ripped the music industry to shreds. He puts out his own records and does his own booking now.
Oh, please. Morrissey is being forced to put his own stuff out now (which he still hasn't done) because no label, thus far, has wanted him. The big joke in the English press is that he complains about it to every big English musician that he runs into. "Ripping the music industry to shreds", hahaha. That man wishes he was still part of it. He's basically a parody of himself now. He's a complete joke.
So if the music industry doesn't want you on your terms you are a complete joke? I couldn't disagree more.
I can see why you would think that I mean that, but I don't. I mean he's a complete joke now b/c he now parodies his old self. When he was in the Smith's, you at least believed the image he was putting forth. Now he's a millionaire living in LA, singing about the same heartaches of being a poor, depressed undersexed Mancunian.
Here are some recent pictures. http://www.morrissey-solo.com/tour/2002/images/dublin_natalie_kreuter_2002_10_02/ Saw him here in Denver a few weeks ago. Not a bad show either. He has solid musicians in the lineup too. Only thing that sucks are the overfanatical fans at the shows. He does have a few new songs, one titled "Mexico" which is really good, and performed them too. No beer belly, but I the grey temples is showing through.
I've read good reviews of the shows, and had some friends at the Berkeley show that nothing but good stuff to say about it. But the thought of me there watching him sing "Late Night Maudlin Street" in the year 2002 is just a bit too much.
The actual viewing of him sing Late Night Maudlin Street isn't as bad as the fanatical people that attend his shows. They cry and reach out like he's going to cure their sickness or something. The pushy people there were just laughable, poor lost souls. Grow up and get on with life.
