It's FIFA, they normally neglect the accomplishments of defensive players. It's no surprise that a good portion of the players are big name forwards that have had a bad year (Raul).
Raul who? Is he still playing soccer? Meanwhile you've got a guy like Carvalho who won CL, Eufa, Euro Finalist, and really one of the best defenders in the world and he's not even on the list. Never mind Raul, WTF is Maldini doing on the list? he's another player living off his former reputation.
The World Player of the year is all about Reputations and nothing else. The World Player of the year and the Fifa monthly rankings are all crap anyways.
i tell you again that the system format has to change its like judging a skating competion. they vote on numbers instead of how they perform.its hard to choose but the one who deservably plays the best should win. and deco led porto to a uefa championship and he still is playing at the same magnatude as he left.half the players on the list is a joke but so is fifa. just vote on the player that had the best accomplishments that year. raul what? drugs may be a factor but its also money.
