This is simple rumors have been spreading about the sale of both players. Obviously one them is leaving the Bernabeu. My opinion is that Ronaldo should be the one sold.... He is worth more $$$ and he has injury problems, with Ronaldo's sale Madrid can grab Def. Midfeilders and Defenders. Morientes is better than Ronaldo. SELL RONALDO keep EL MORO
You know, I can understand loyalty to Morientes. But in no way, shape, or form is he better than Ronaldo (a healthy Ronaldo). The only thing that Morientes is better at is in the air (heading), other than that it is no contest.
Ronaldo is Pichichi though. He shows up when Madrid needs him. It's hard to argue with his production for Madrid when he's in the line-up. It's almost a goal a game. There's an X-factor here that hasn't been mentioned. I think Raul plays better with Morientes. Raul scored more, was more involved in the play and certainly was a bigger factor in Madrid's overall offensive scheme. Bringing Morientes back and getting rid of Ronnie could revitalize Raul. Long-term, that's better for Madrid, I think. I just don't know how Madrid would do that or who would give Madrid the $$$ for Ronaldo. Chelsea maybe? Most importantly, Madrid needs to be on the market for some world-class defenders. They should take a page out of Valencia's book, because their defense is world-class, maybe the best in Europe, certainly the best in Spain.
Yah Real needs defense for sure, that should be the main focus. Yet the only way they can get world class defenders is if the y start offloading some galacticos such as Figo and Ronaldo (who could fetch 100milion Euros). With that kind of money Madrid could get guys like Walter Samuel in the back. Then get Xabi Alonso from Sociedad to replace Makelele as Defensive Midfeilder, Also Joaquin could fit in quite nicley in that Right Midfeild spot Zidane could do his thang on the left with Beckham in his best position as a CM without any of the defensive duties which would be handed over to Alonso. Another thing which hasnt been mentioned is depth. Real was dominating until late March when they blew a 9 point lead in La Liga lost the Cup Final and got trounced from the CL. Why? because unlike 2002 and even 2003 this team lacks depth.
I love El Moro. But an F1 car at 70% speed is still faster than a really good Corvette at full speed. That's Ronaldo versus Morientes. Remember Morientes never wn Pichichi. Remember that Morienes was subbed by the beloved Del Bosque for Guti for almost half a season. Remember when the fans booed El Moro against Bayern because of the sitters he missed? Remember how slow we were on the counter-attack? If we get 100 million, sell Ronaldo. Otherwise, I'd rather sell Zidane and Figo and Beckham both and replace them with Joaquin, Aimar AND Xabi Alonso AND Samuel and Chivu for the same price plus give Solari more playing time. Who knows, we could even buy Ronaldinho
Well said. I thought I was the only one. At age 26, RAUL has been effectively relegated to the Midfielder position. That is NOT were he belongs. He has at least 6 more years in him, 4 of which is at the striker position. He is being wasted now, Ronnie has to go. Get the cash and get Moro back.
I think Raul is just having a bad season. We never had all these discussions during Ronaldo's first season. And Raul has scored around 20 goals this season, not too shabby for a bad season as a second striker.
Look no offence but u wouldn’t see a buss coming at you if it hit you right in the face! I can see how most of you guys would prefer Ronaldo in the beginning of the season but now with what El Moro has done! No way!! He has proved to everybody with out any doubt that he is a first rate striker not to mention he is a better fit than Ronaldo. He is the leading scorer of CL with 9 goals that’s more than Ronaldo, Henry and Makaay combined!!! and still you guys want to sell him!!!!!
El Moro was still in the squad last season. I know that he and Raul are pretty tight, so you have to think Raul has been affected, at least a little bit, but Morientes absence. You would hope that it wouldn't have that much of an effect on Raul, but who knows? One thing this season has demonstrated is that Madrid lacks depth. If they can find a way to convince Morientes that he has a spot on the team and is a valued member of their strike force, even if he doesn't start every game, they should bring him back. I know Morientes wasn't happy with his playing time and that was part of the reason he left, so that may be too big of a hurdle to clear with Ronaldo and Raul ahead of him.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/soccer/05/06/morientes.ap/ Well its official. Florentino Perez is not a complete idiot.... yet. El Moro will be back at the Bernabeau next season, but if Chelski put down the $$$ for him he could very well be on his way out. But logic says that Abramovich would prefer Ronaldo. El Moro has had his ups and downs, but so has Ronnie with all the injuries. Even when he di d suit up for Inter (a mere 44 games) he wasnt the same Ronaldo. He only gained his touch back in WC02. Real could keep both of them and play a 4-4-3. Whatever the outcome, Real Madrid will have a radically different team come next September.
Ronaldo would wither even more away at Chelsea, so I hope that he doesn't go there. Chelsea has what, four strikers already?
Real madrid needs aggresive players and players who close down the ball. I suggest gattuso, xabi alonso or emerson. Also, how did the ayala deal break down at the last minute?
i said this during the 'ronaldo to madrid' saga, and i'll say it again. raul & morientes was the best striker tandem in all of europe. is ronaldo better than mori? yes. is ronaldo & raul better than raul & morientes? no. whatta ya want? the best side you can put on the pitch, or the most talent you can put on the pitch? they're not necessarily the same thing. and anyone who thinks valdano and perez have spent the last four years pursuing the former, rather than the later, is blind. perhaps now - after the fiasco that more than a few of us foresaw - they're going to try to put out the best side that they can, rather than the biggest collection of stars.
Well spoken...ultimately, it is how well players sinc-up and play off of one another. Has Moro missed sitters? Yes. But I've seen Ronaldo and Raul miss sitters too. (everyone has their bad days, right?) I don't if Moro is more consistent than Ronaldo or Raul (you long time Real fans will know) but I have to say that Moro is a sly fox and is really clever with his passing (all-around play). So well see what happens...
I, being an avid Real Madrid fan, cannot understand why some Real fans cannot look beyond Raul and Moro. I cannot believe that people actually want to sell Ronaldo who scored more than fifty goals in two seasons, even though he was plagued by injuries! He is better than Raul and Morientes combined. Real should sell these two (semi)useless players and recruit a genuine scorer, such as RVN. The time to sell Raul is now as he will generate lots of cash. Next year, after another flop season, no one will be willing to cash in on Raul and that would result in a loss of potentially substantial revenue. Moreover, Beckham should be sold and Totti should be bought in his place. Then if Emerson can be added to the team, Real will become invincible. It is strange that every Real player was criticized last season, including Ronaldo, Zidane, Beckham and Figo. However, no one criticized or had the guts to sub Raul, the worst 'galactico'. I really cannot understand the allegiance to ‘Raul and Moro’ and discern that the club should gain precedence over players. I wish others who feel for the club and want it to succeed, had similar powers of comprehension.
Sell Morientes..he is probably pretty valuable right now after his run with Monaco..Ronaldo can give you just to much if he stays healthy.
Well seeing that they haven't play together too much the last 2 years...it is hard to expect renewed instant offense. Saez's set was retarded...as a lot of people have mentioned, apparently anyone can coach a national team these days. Regarding Ronaldo...the things he does with the ball are insane. He is amazing and should not be sold, IMO. Provided he stays healthy, I expect 30+ goals for him in La Liga this upcoming season. But then what do you do? You have 3 strikers that should play as much as possible and Ronaldo is obviously the best of the three but sitting Moro or Raul seems a pitiful waste. So sell Raul or Moro?
.................................................................................... Sell..Real!! lol They went overboard!! Too much of a good thing , is not good!! Chelsea will follow!! That russian is an idiot!! I;m not a Real fan,I'm "united' and ..Barca,but I like Real. I always did!! They are the best team ever in european competitions!! By the way, none of those mentioned here in this thread is the best player!! Salgado and Roberto Carlos are!!!! Just....MO!
Neither. Camacho has said that his intentions are to make "rotations". When he gave a phone call to Morientes and managed to make him stay at Real (and he had wonderful offers), he told him two things: one, that Ronaldo is the starter. Two, that he is going to get a lot of minutes and games. Real will not and cannot get to the last three month of competition with exhausted players, and Morientes is there for that, not to kick anybody out. Camacho, as anybody in his right mind, knows that Raul will come back and get back into shape. He wasn't playing injured 3 months for nothing. Camacho has not even considered to touch Raul, but Morientes will also let him get needed rest during the year. That's all. Everybody stays, everybody plays and gets along.
Ronaldo is the best striker in the world no doubt. As a Real Madrid admirer, I gotta say that something just doesn't seem right or ethical for that matter. I can't even believe that ppl here are wanting Ronaldo to leave because "RAUL IS NOT PLAYING WELL WITH HIM" lol. It's really hilarious, kick out the guy that performs because the spoilt brat of Madrid is dissappearing amidst Ronaldo's presence. Doesn't make sense at all. I think the topic should be changed to 'Raul or Moro'. As for the Ronaldo vs. Moro discussion. Check this, Ronaldo averages a stunning 27 or so per season in La Liga(even when injured for a few games) while Moro is on about 17 per season. Doesn't take a genius to realise who would be the better choice. Granted that Ronaldo is healthy, he can single-handedly annhilate any team at any given day. Remember that Madrid's slump started when Ronaldo got injured last season. Just one last note, u Madrid fans should stop pampering Raul! He is playing like crap not because of Ronaldo, that's one weak argument that shows how limited Raul is. Raul had a disastorous season, case closed! No excuses, no blame on other players.
Finally someone makes sense! Real should get rid of Raul and Morientes and bring in a genuine goal scorer...RVN wouldn't be too bad. Figo, ZZ and whoever replaces that Beckham setting up Ron and RVN...Treble!
there is no point to argu Ro or Mo. and it is unsless also to give those figures to prove Ronaldo is much better. why don't you guys see that Ronaldo only got one title in two seasons time, and Mo got..... I don't know how much. pls look back to the midfielders. right now, zidane almost is the only guy in the team who can really create chances for Ronaldo, coz Ro doesn't know how to use his head. Figo or Carlos are not that suitable, Beckham only knows how to pass the ball to head. when Zidane need rest, who gonna do that job preperly, maybe Solari (at this moment); then after Zidane's retirement, the duty goes to......... Totti? he has a long way to go. maybe Ronaldho is a better choice, just too difficult to get. and check out the 'shopping list' as well: Joaquin is also more likely to pass the ball on the air if he is the one going to sub Figo. in a long run, when you got only one way to attack, it is easier for opponent to defend, no matter how great Ronnie is, unless he gonna improve his head. if Ronnie got injuried again, (please don't assume Ronaldo is healthy) we gonna be slapped. of course, it may never be worse than last season. second, Mo is a good striker, but I don't think Mo is a compatible 'No.9' for real madrid. we definitely need someone who can play better. but at this stage, he is the only one who can use use head in the squad. we may have to keep him to increase variety of offense. Raul, noone could deny that Raul has done so much for Real Madrid. but after this disastrous season, it is more likely that he is going downhill path,Morientes could play better than Raul as a midfielder role. it might be a good choice to sell him, but nobody wants to take that risk and accusation of selling the golden boy of Spain. the new coach already said 'rotation'. that possibly means three players are still playing for Real madrid next season. but for long run, I got an insane idea: selling all three strikers, the money gonna be enough to buy Etoo, Van Nisterooy (or makaay) and one substitued strike plus one world-class defender.
