Morelia U19/Juventus U19 Tour of the Midwest? In looking up the coming USMNT schedule, on the USSF site, I found some interesting info... 19 June 2003 Juventus U-19s (Italy) vs. Chicago Fire Reserves (Lemont, Ill.) 20 June 2003 Juventus U-19s (Italy) vs. Morelia U-19s (Mexico) Cardinal Stadium (Naperville, Ill.) 22 June 2003 Morelia U-19s (Mexico) vs. IAHS All-Star Team Cara McGrane Stadium (Des Moines, IA) Juventus U-19s (Italy) vs. Des Moines Menace (PDL) Cara McGrane Stadium (Des Moines, IA) 26 June 2003 Morelia U-19s (Mexico) vs. Sioux Falls Spitfire (PDL) McEneaney Field (Sioux Falls, S.D.) 29 June 2003 Morelia U-19s (Mexico) vs. Milwaukee Wave United (A-League) Uihlein Soccer Park (Milwaukee, Wis.) Does anyone know about these matches? I would assume that the Fire has some part in it since they are playing at Estadio Jose Cardenal and because of the business connection between Morelia and Chicago (which seems to have lapsed some...the co-op site hasn't been updated in ages and nothing new has really come out of it)... Just seemd curious with this coming by, apparently, in less than a month. Edited to add CFR game
While this isn't ticker tape parade and fireworks type news, it's still nice.....I guess. Would've been a whole heck of a lot more interesting to check out if Adu had accepted Juve's offer.
Chicago Fire Reserves to take on Juventus Hey, just a heads up that the Reserves will be playing the Juventus Primavera (no sauce jokes, please) squad on Thursday, June 19 in Lemont, IL. The Primavera squad is basically their U23s. Should be a great game...our future stars against their future stars! Check the website (www.firereserves.com) on Friday for more info!
That's awesome, but I live roughly 1 minute from that field and I have my doubts abut whether or not it'll be ready. There isn't a scoreboard, and there are spots where the grass hasn't filled in all the way. Other than that, it's a beautiful 120x80 field.
The scoreboard is there...it's just not up yet. We were hoping it would be up for our home opener this Friday, but it's not looking good. However, it will definitely be ready for the 19th!! As for the grass, well, we'll just have to play as best we can with what we have! Cheers, chifirefan
It's Juventus U-19 Des Moines plays them on June 22nd in a doubleheader following Morelia vs Iowa High School Senior All Stars.
I don't think they have a "U-19", they call it Primavera, spring time, or something like that. Might be basically the same guys, but with some guys older than 19 as well.
I thought the homw opener was Saturday. Anyway, how do you know the scoreboard is there? Not doubting you, just wondering how you know.
Sorry!! The home opener IS Saturday, June 7 at 7:00 p.m. (not Friday) As for the scoreboard...we're waiting for the school to have it installed. But it IS there...gathering dust!
Good luck, knowing John Young, Lemont's athletic director, it should be put up sometime during 2005. I was supposed to play on that field during my senior year, 2001, and it's just now getting finished
The FIRE Reserves - Juventus Primavera match is now scheduled for Tuesday June 16th, 7:30PM at the Lemont HS sports complex on Bell Rd. & 131st St. http://www.firereserves.com./home.html Keep an eye out for an announcement of a CFR match with the Morelia U-19s to be played in the next couple of weeks.
Isn't this an U19 team? http://www.juventus.com/it/squadre//giovanili/primavera.htm They were supposed to play two games in the Toronto area, but one of the games has been cancelled.
Looks more like an U21 to me. There's only a half dozen (of the 24) who are under 19. The rest are 19 & 20.
CFR v Juventus Primavera (U21s?) Tuesday, June 17, 2003 7:30 p.m. Lemont HS Sports Complex (131st and Bell Road) Details being hammered out today (Monday) Press release/more news due out tomorrow. Hope this clears some things up.
We did have a scoreboard...albeit one that the school brought over from the gym! It didn't count up to 45, so timekeeping was a little hit or miss. But at least they did their best to help us out! John Young's alright, too.
two things - I apologize for putting up the wrong date on the website, I do a lot of updates and reports after each game, at 1am things get a little blury. second-thanks to willydonc on the game review, he usually gets to see more of the game than I do. Lemont HS is going to be the best venue in North Eastern Illinois for it's size. We have suffered through no grass, bad grass, hay field (remember that game at SXU last year), torn up stands...... Lemont came to us three years ago, before we even played our first game and before they started construction. They told us about the plan, we told them we would keep our options open. We were hoping to play on it last year too! Grass growing did not go well, so we shifted games to the football stadium. What's the old saying about fighting mother nature. Rich Prangen (soccer coach Lemont hs) did a great job helping us get through the first game. Lemont parents and volunteers that run the concession stand did a great job. We are in the process of lining up a number of special events, Juventus is just the first, got a pregame concert in the planning stages for the last game, a bunch of fans came down to Chili's and met the players after the game, lots of smiles on the kids with players at Chili's, we are looking to have fun like we couldn't before, we hope our fans do too! thanks cfrsoccer
