UNAM Pumas (Mexico) - Santos (Brazil) @ SBC Park, SF, 3/17/04 Whoever goes to the game at SBC is in for a treat. I think it's a great stadium for soccer. I saw Chivas-America play there. But being that I'm from Guadalajara and my neighbor is from Morelia I'll be going to Spartan. This'll be good for all of us "jonesin'" for Quakes season.

Moved Morelia/Chivas related posts from the cancelled game thread over to this new one. Since we have a game one week later at Spartan, I'm skipping this one. FYI, many Morelia supporters stayed and rooted for the Quakes at the 2002 doubleheader in which Morelia played River Plate in the opener. And Guadalajaran fans are even "classier" than Raider fans -- they're the ones who chanted "Osama" during the US/Mexico Olympic qualifier a couple weeks ago. I know who I'd root for.
Well this Chivas fan is a Quakes season ticket holder who sprayed his hair blue at the final and hates Osama. Go Quakes and Chivas!!!
Considering it. If I go (now that Santos is cancelled), I'll do N3 with the rest of the cheap bastards.
It looks like this game will be taped in high definition and shown on InHD March 21 and March 25. InHD is a high definition channel which, in the Bay Area, is currently only available on Comcast. (InHD also should be available on the new satellite service VOOM, but likely not until after these taped broadcasts of the Chivas-Morelia game.) So bring a big sign to the game that says, "High Definition and the Quakes Rule!" and you will likely get a close up of yourself in HDTV. ;-) Also, if you are planning on bringing your kids (perhaps not a good idea), under 10 get a free ticket at box office with proof of purchase of the game sponsor's brand yogurt. (Game's sponsor is Marquez Brothers International. I would guess their brands are available at Mexican grocery stores.) Yep! Be interesting to see how the field plays for next week's game. If it's fast it favors the home team.

The answer to that should be obvious. We have tons of expatriate Mexicans in the country and 99.9 percent of them are futbol fans. What better way to make money off of them than staging matches between native Mexican teams? You saw the attendance figures, I suppose.
The guys on Telemundo were GUSHING about the field. I saw parts of the 1st half: a great game and Andres Cantor and partner kept on going on and on about the field looking beautiful. Quite a different pitch than the Interliga fiasco.
Just wondering considering the success of this game as well as other games and events that Marquez Brothers / El Mexicano have done in the past, don't you think this might be a good partnership for the Quakes to promote the team to Latin fans ??? It seems like it would be mutually beneficial to both. Marquez Brothers tapping into the anglo market while they promote the Quakes to their existing latino base ....

The atmosphere was incredible and everything except the upper deck on the west side was almost completely full. There was some bottle (and other debris) throwing after the penalty call, but for the most part the crowd was loud and passionate but not unruly. The usual Spartan/Quakes game day stadium staff was there (but not in Quakes' gear). As for the fans, I saw 2 or 3 jerseys there outside of my own. The Quakes did have at least one signboard with the website address and there were announcements in Spanish about the home opener against Chee-ca-go. The new field was beautiful. However, we'll still need to see how it drains and how it holds up after college football season starts. (chuckle) "don't be dissin' the Slavs!"
Hopefully the new Spartan field won't convince AEG to settle for Spartan instead of building a new South Bay SSS for the Quakes! Especially when my Slav-specific MLS fun is limited to heckling the likes of Dema Kovalenko, Igor Simutenkov and Preki... at least the Anglo and Hispanic fans in the crowd have a greater number of players to heckle. We went to the game & it was wonderful, I am not mexican but I'm south american & a big Chivas fan, I also like Morelia a lot. The atmosphere was wonderful, plus watching them play is a treat, they have such good ball control-very talented the players on mexican teams, Chivas is the only mexican team with only mexicans, morelia always has great talent from Argentina & Chile. Anyone nervous about going to these games is just missin' out. He he.
