Petit had surgery over the weekend to repair a couple of broken bones in his jaw suffered in a freak collision with an Academica player Saturday night. The pictures of his grotesquely swollen face certainly do not bode well for a speedy recovery. http://www.uefa.com/footballcentral/news/Kind=2/newsId=40034.html
See the front cover of today's Record for a better idea of what I am talking about. http://www.record.pt/capa.asp?id=179805
It is too bad, though it may give Hugo Viana the opportunity to play in a holding midfielder position. Most likely, though, we will see Vidigal pairing up with Costinha.
Speaking of Petit, World Soccer did a nice feature story on the player. I didn't realize he was that close to giving up on the game. http://www.countrylife.co.uk/worldsoccer/profile_petit0810.html
Benfica needs to fire Jesualdo Fereirra, all the points lost over the last month has been his fault. He's a good coach for small teams like Alverca, but not big teams like Benfica.
