I wish! But I just think it's extremely unlikely for him to come over as of now.. He said that he still wants to play in Europe and it even said in the article that he would have to accept less money to play here. I don't see how teams in the EPL, Serie A, La Liga or even in Brazil will pass up on him.

But if we do get him

I know getting Kaka is far fetched but I thought the fact they are trying to get him and also trying to dump Crapa is good news!

Not sure why we have to spend zillions on Kaka to get rid of Rafa. I'd settle for a new ballboy.

Only really new news here is that we actually made a bid, right? Didn't Kaka already state plainly that he would consider coming after 2014?

Madrid want around 20 mil euros for Kaka. He won't be a Redbull. For that much money we could get someone better.

If you read the article by Brian Lewis, the amount of any transfer was actually accepted by Real Madrid and it was Kaka that was not sure he wanted to go to MLS and maybe is now is probably regretting his decision because he will be riding the bench at Real Madrid if he is lucky to make the bench and will lose any chance he has of making the 2014 Brazil World Cup team.

I had thought that Real Madrid would demand $USD 20M (and not of course the ridiculous sum that Metz was calculating at $45 to $50M based his simple minded calculation of 50% of his contract having expired and his original transfer fee) and now appears to be far less, but the Red Bulls were the only team to have made an offer and maybe now Corinthians in Brazil.

Kaka would make a lot of sense as a player that would both help competitively as well as commercially. But he'd just be so darn expensive, both in salary and transfer fee. Obviously it would be great to get a player like him when he is still 30, but I think it's much more realistic to try in a year or two. By then hopefully we'll have gotten rid of Marquez and maybe we won't have the total logjam of attacking players we have right now.

I read it. The article claims Redbull was the only to offer. Never said Madrid accepted, they let it sit. So we went and got Cahill.

Milan have met over Kaka. Problem with them is his wage. I still think he will end up going back to Milan. Not sure that is the right thing for Milan though.

Either way, Kaka has to face the fact he won't be on the Brasil team for the World Cup. They have too much talent and his time is up.

The article did not quite say that Read Madrid accepted the offer, but here are a couple of paragraphs that you may have overlooked and tell me because to me it looks pretty clear that it was accepted by Real Madrid and presented to Kaka to accept which he didn't. Here are a couple

“The player must decide his future in the next three days,’’ said the source, adding that Kaka could make his decision by the time Real Madrid plays a friendly Friday in Portugal. “Real Madrid only have at the moment one offer: (Red Bull). But in the last days, Corinthians asks for Kaka.’’

"..the player must decide his future in the next three days", said the source

Plus from the link to the Marca article, even clearer

Kaká now knows from the horse's mouth that Real Madrid does not want him to continue. The club informed Kaká that several interesting offers have come in from Brazil, above all that from Corinthians. His coach, Mourinho, has made it clear to the player that this year he will be unlikely to have starter status for Real.

Kaká was clear on the fact that he was not going to make any kind of move until Madrid told him that he did not feature in its plans. However, this Monday, his position was turned on its head as he now knows that the club does not want him. The €70 million that, between his salary and repayments, Madrid is still facing, as well as his loss of status within the squad, have heavily influenced the club's decision to ask him to accept an offer.
To me this looks very clear that Read Madrid gave him the offer to accept and he didn't. Real Madrid would get rid of his 10 Million Net Euro salary for a player that at best was going to be on the bench. Am I assuming that would involve allowing Kaka to break his contract and accept a lower salary from Red Bulls and also to play in MLSL which he didn't accept.

Only DP level player I found that would make sense and is represented by WMG is Michael Owen.

I guess some flyover team might take a flyer on him.

Obviously we'd all love if the Red Bulls could unload Rafa and get Kaka, but I'd be shocked if they could get both deals done in the next 24 hours.

But if RB can get Kaka, Garber will make the Rafa problem go away.

I don't even care if we get Kaka or not, I'd be ecstatic if we just somehow managed to get rid of Rafa.

Just take a look at all of the conceptual formations is throwing around now that we have Cahill - is there a single legitimate one that features Rafa in any position? Maybe you could argue slotting him as a CB next to Conde, but I'm sure you'd just as gladly be done with him and drop him.

There's no place for him on this team if they want to win a cup, there's no way around that fact.

Marquez never should have lasted this long.

It's so true. And it's funny that you say that because in terms of keeping his legs playing wise, he hasn't lasted long at all. I just can't even imagine how he can factor into Backe's plans for the team. It's like he is just a problem that they all try to ignore and hope that he will go away, yet when he gets healthy enough to play they all just cave and let him back on the field.

I honestly liked him the first season he played for us, I thought he did very well but he just hasn't been the same player.

At least it's good to see that this team is willing to shell out tons of money and go after world class players.

It doesn't surprise me that Kaka doesn't want to come to MLS at this stage of his career but this shows he could be here sooner rather than later.

Ok so Kaka's rep I think stated that Kaka wants to play in MLS but just not now, maybe in a few year... hmmm gee thats greaaaat. I think in a few years I won't want to see Kaka play in MLS. He is what, 30 now? So in a few years say 32-33 HE will be ready to come to MLS, probably 2014 or so but I honestly hope we DO NOT go after him then because he is passing us now. Call it the fact that every player says the same damn thing if they are famous and still want to play in Europe. I think Kaka was using MLS as a bargaining chip as usual like the rest of them do. Threatening to go to MLS but really wanting another shot with another club in Europe was simply fishing for the best cash grab he could find. I am sure he genuinely wants to play here one day but it literally hits me the wrong way that he could come now but for whatever x reason he is staying put in Europe.

He is dreaming and I really mean dreaming, cause he will never make the team, of playing for Brasil in the next World Cup. He knows if he comes here he doesn't have a chance. I don't think he has a chance either way. A country like Brasil has way too much talent. I don't think I would want him after 2014. I don't think he will be healthy enough to keep playing. I think now was the time.
