Has there been any word about whether local tv will show Crew away games? They showed quite a few last year, but I had not heard anything about this year. Also, I read somewhere that Fox Sports World may be able to show some MLS games since ESPN din not ask for exclusivity for MLS to be on ABC/ESPN only for nat'l broadcasts.
I hope they show more on TV...especially the away games so we oculd see them when they are away from home... -PB20
no, the games were on local tv, not fox sports net. The article... it was on cnnsi or mlsnet... mentioned that the espn contract is different this year.
The Crew can't get a deal with Fox Sports Net OH because there are two MLB teams in OH that take up the time spots the Crew would use. It sucks, because FSN is where most other teams show their games locally and Columbus dosen't have a local sports channel devoted to sports like NY or KC that could help us out. The word is that the local TV deal the Crew comes up with will be even smaller than last year. However, I'm hearing that Time Warner might step in and produce more games on their cable access channel and SportTV, I think it's channel 24. I don't know what Insight will do though.
so that'll look like no games on ABC-6. But more games on Sport TV? Could be better, could be worse. Usually Sport TV is TW24, Insight 36 or 78? 70-something i know, if not 36 depending on where you live or something like that.... Fox Sports Chicago shows Cubs, Sox, probably lots of other stuff and still has room for Fire... don't know how that works. if MLS moves to Fox, they'd probably keep the games on Saturdays since NASCAR takes up most of Sundays. Or else they could use FSW, i guess, but more people get national FOX, so MLS would probably want to stay away from FSW as much as possible, I guess.
Fox Sports Chicago is the third outlet for the Cubs and the second outlet for the Sox. Fox Sports Ohio has primarily been showing the Indians, then the Reds. However, if the Crew were based in Cleveland or the Natti, I'd think they would be on Fox more often.
This may happen as a deal is apparently close to being finalized between MLS and FSW to air games that aren't broadcast on ESPN2 or local TV. It'll also give FSW more stuff to air during the summer, so i'd expect a few delayed broadcasts and/or rebroadcasts. This should be good since if someone's watching a game on shootout, they can watch one game live and catch the other game on FSW later without having to flip back and forth. There was also talk about FSW being able to "jump in" to other games kind of like what espn2 does with CL coverage.
This may be partially true. Let's not forget that the WNBA team in Cleveland has a deal with FSO. Every year I check the schedules of the Reds, Indians and Rockettes and find that there are usually 4 to 6 dates where the Crew could be on FSO (haven't checked yet this year). Coincidentally, the Crew haven't been on FSO since our friend Jim Smith took over as GM.
OK, I've checked. The following is a list of dates that do not conflict with either the Reds or Indians, and could potentially be on FSO: April 12 @ MET May 3 @ KC May 17 @ SJ June 28 v DC July 19 v KC Sep 3 @ LA Sep 7 @ CHI Sep 27 @ NE Oct 4 v DC Oct 11 @ CHI Granted the last three dates would conflict with college football, so excluding them there are 7 potential matches (5 away) that could be on FSO. ONN, SportTV, and FSW are all OK, but let's face it FSO has a much wider distribution. If Jim Smith is serious about growing the market for the Crew he would get these dates on FSO, especially with Cleveland being mentioned as a possible expansion team. (Boy do I have too much free time on my hands!)
If we all get off our asses and go to fill up the stadiums, then we'd probably get all these great big TV contracts we expect without having done anything to deserve them!
Well the Crew already does this so we don't have this problem to worry about unlike many other teams in the league.
http://www.thecrew.com/schedule.cfm?article=245&header=SCHEDULE By my count, there are only 2 away games on the deuce right now. Does anyone remember what ratings MLS received on ESPN2 last year? It Has to be better than "The World's Strongest Man - ch 23".
