With the Scudetto race finishing last weekend, the top teams in Serie A have turned their attentions to Europe. Juventus and Milan have the Champions League final to look forward to, while Lazio and the Milanese duo have to ensure that they will be in that competition next season. This weekend, while the champions fielded a weakened team and duly lost, the former chasing pack all won, quite a reversal in recent form for all concerned. Lazio's achievements in earning a top four finish is quite remarkable, especially given everything which has gone on off the pitch in the last 12 months. That is why Roberto Mancini is so highly rated as a one of Italy's top coaches, and he earned his pay against at home to Brescia. Roberto Baggio gave the visitors the lead after 20 minutes at the Stadio Olympico, and Sinisa Mihajlovic equalised from the spot 19 minutes later. Just before half-time, Cesar made it 2-1 to Lazio from a Claudio Lopez cross, and the Argentinean finished Brescia off in the 81st minute. After the game, Mancini said: "The early goal from Brescia woke us up, then we took control for the rest of the first half. Sinisa Mihajlovic felt ready to take the penalty and it is only right that he should score. He deserved it. I have a contract with Lazio and am 100 per cent sure I will stay here." Even with the Coppa Italia final and the Champions League final coming up in the next few weeks, Milan had to beat Bologna to guarantee their top four finish, so Carlo Ancelotti turned out a strong side. Goals from Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf and Pippo Inzaghi put them in a commanding position before Mourad Meghni pulled one back. Ancelotti was pleased with the win: "We are sure of a top four place now. It was a good performance against Bologna, albeit with a leisurely tempo." Internazionale badly needed a win after losing the derby in midweek, and Hector Cuper needed it more than most. A Pavan own goal and a strike from Mohamed Kallon before half-time earned them three points at Modena and the coach said afterwards: "It was a tough and intense game where we absolutely needed the victory. But then again it has been like that all year. I have a contract that expires in 2005. I was asked to stay with Inter for another season and I said yes. In my two seasons here the team has always gone very close to achieving its aims." Juve rested most of the stars after winning the league a week ago, and lost 2-1 at Reggina. David Di Michele and Emiliano Bonazzoli's goals meant that Marcelo Zalayeta's was only a consolation and Marcelo Lippi explained that: "We wanted to play as professionals, but it is understandable that Juventus were still affected by the Real Madrid match. The rotation system allows everyone to get some time on the field."
