BOULDER RAPIDS RESERVE PLAYER THOMPSON INVITED TO US TEAM

    BOULDER, CO (July 24, 2002)

Apparently, producing results for the Boulder Rapids Reserve team has some benefits. Jason Thompson, a starting forward for the team and Sophomore at Eastern Illinois University, learned that hard work pays off as he was selected to play for the United States Under-23 National Team by head coach Glen Meyrnick,(U-23 National Team Coach, Assistant Head Coach for the World Cup Team, and ex-coach of the Colorado Rapids) after watching Sunday’s Boulder Rapids Reserve game versus the Des Moines Menace.

Jason, a season-long starter for the Reserve has tallied 12 Goals and 2 Assists in 13 games played, good enough for 9th in the nation in points for the Premier Development League.

“When I heard the news, I couldn’t sit down for hours” the overjoyed forward was quoted.

“It is a testament to how far our franchise has come in just three short years of play. To go to the playoffs and have a player selected to the national team is just fantastic” said owner Hansen Rada.

Thompson will be flying to England on Sunday straight from Des Moines, IA with the U-23 National Team to play Manchester United Reserve team, directly after the first two rounds of playoff games played by the Boulder Rapids Reserve.

The Boulder Rapids Reserve will play the Chicago Fire Reserves on Friday and if victorious, the winner of the other first round match between the Des Moines Menace or Mid Michigan Bucks on Saturday.
