And Nagbe was not able to get back. I'll also note that the defenders all collapsed on the center forward, allowing the backpass to an unmarked player at the top of the arc. If one guy stays out there, it's not as easy a shot.
We were less than 18 inches away from a 5-1 victory and still doubled up their xG. We pressed the accelerator down (with our little fuzzy toe*) against a solid opponent. * Pres of USA throwback lyric
10 more days to get better, rest some guys who need it and Atlanta comes to town and that should be a win and mark one month before the summer window opens. So everyone has time to show Nancy & Tall something before we make more changes.
No data just vibes take, MLS has really sped up the speed of play and have better pressing systems. The veteran CBs and DMs are taking a bit to adjust
I’m unsure about this defense. Last night was fine, a nice win against a weakened opponent. But it seems theres a decent chance this team couldn’t keep a shutout against a USL side right now. Does a healthy Camacho fix that? He was mostly solid before he ran out of gas the last quarter of the season last year, when he became a total liability, but is he ever going to get healthy? Fact is, all of our center backs have struggled defensively this year. Moreira, Zawadski, and especially Amundsen. Cheberko has probably been the best of the bunch but that’s not saying much. I started out by saying I’m not sure about the defense, but I am. I don’t think the answers are on the roster, and I’m not convinced they’re going to go out in the summer and find a solution who can come in and fix things immediately. Theres a chance that the summer DP striker is so potent that it overwhelms the opposition and covers up all the defensive weakness. Maybe. Possibly. Bottom line, to end this rant by joining the sunshine brigade, we got the coach who can figure this out and make it work. All he’s done is lift trophies, and doubting that man seems a fools errand.
The 2-4-4 and sometimes 2-1-3-4 build out shape when in possession has put immense pressure on the defense. It there is a giveaway moving the ball from the mid 3rd to the final 3rd. When a team presses with 3 or 4, theyll typically have a man advantage if there is a turnover before both teams set back up in their attacking shape. This has been very noticeable since that Romero game vs Seattle.
I find it funny that they waited to do this after I quit drinking! They must know I would have abused the hell out of it.
Zawadzki > Camacho Camacho is done , washed ! He shouldn’t be starting here and he isn’t the answer. We could get a better CB so Zawadzki doesn’t start but either way we need another CB. Cheberko is serviceable in the middle but i prefer him and Amundsen rotating at LCB we are fine at RCB with Moreria , Ruva and Herrera
Drink drink wherever you may be We love to drink, 'specially when it's free(*) (*)I know, I know. But I needed the rhyme to make it work.
Rumor doesnt tie us to him, but hes the type of guy we'd be looking at as Striker/winger hybrid like Jota and Embolo An unnamed #MLS club is interested in signing #ASRoma striker Eldor Shomurodov 👀🇺🇿#Shomurodov, 29, played 37 games across all competition scoring 7g/5a.The striker is under contract with #Roma until June 2026.Last year #AtlantaUnited was interested in him.[h/t: L'Equipe] pic.twitter.com/or84tz6COG— The North Insiders | (@TheNorthInsider) June 15, 2025
Super late to comment, but I really liked Herrera's match on Saturday. Maybe he's a better fit as a backup to Steven in that "I don't care that I am a CB, I am going up the field all game" role than to Farsi.
I know nothing about this player. His ages jumps out, though. He turns 30 in two weeks. At least in recent years, major offensive acquisitions have been younger players the FO might, at some future point, be able to sell. Acquiring a 30 year old attacker doesn't seem to align with how we do things here.
Not sure of all the examples, but, the tactic de jure is to press high and force turnovers in the attacking third. Winning possession in the final third leads to more "better" chances being created which should lead to more goals being scored. So I would guess that some of the shitty giveaways might be due to pressing. I am sure there is a xG graph to show this
The big gripe about soccer is that compared to other team sports there are so few "points". VAR is not doing the sport any favors and we saw a prime example in this match. 1) Goal given by onfield, VAR spend a good amount of time trying to figure out if it was offside before finally asking the ref to review. Of course the ref will overturn. 2) Offside given onfield but no lengthy VAR review and this one looked even closer than the first. In both of these cases it could be argued that two legit goals were ruled out. Is it the "goal" of VAR to make the game more sterile and actively look for ways to rule goals out? It shouldn't be but sometimes it seems to be. Are there plans for MLS to implement the semi automated offside?
