I guess we can call this one confirmed: http://www.soccerbyives.net/2013/01...exit-delivers-goodbye-letter-via-twitter.html
Sounders release an official statement about Montero's loan: Adrian Hanauer issues statement on Fredy Montero On a slightly more interesting side, SounderAtHeart included this little tidbit in their article about Hanauer's comment: http://www.sounderatheart.com/sound...1368/sounders-statement-on-fredy-montero-loan
Big gamble to throw away our best player, all-time scorer, and assist-leader. Whatever offensive DP we bring in to replace him better be awesome.
If we bring one in. Remember this move happens cause we are over the cap. We would still need to open more cap space to sign a full cap hit DP.
I mentioned in other posts I thought Fredy's "natural" talent was as an attacking midfielder; not as a pure forward and also made the point that he would buck that coaching because he's wants the ball and wants to score goals. Seems like this post from a fan who heard his Columbian radio interview confirms what I've suspected all along, that Montero thinks he's a forward and can't be coached otherwise. If I'm a coach in Europe, or even in Columbia, I'll take note of that little post and think to myself "Hmmm...I wonder if this player will do what I ask of him for the best interests of the team?" I wish Fredy well but I do not predict a future any brighter than he had while with the Sounders.
It's not about playing in Columbia for it's own sake to get on the NT, but playing in the Copa Libertadores. That opens up the possibility of playing in Europe or Mexico which could get him on the NT. Or it could even happen the other way around. I'm just pointing out that from his perspective he has to be thinking that it's his only shot. Players all have ambitions. Even the 30 yr old who goes to Europe for the first time is looking for potential opportunities. And I'm not discounting the fact that the Sounders need to move him as well. I'm just pointing out that this works for both parties involved. The Sounders have been trying to sell him to cash in on their investment and move on; and Fredy has been trying to play in a bigger league and take the next step in his career. It's not an acrimonious parting. Both sides needed this.
Protects the team. Remember his contract was up. What's to stop him from finishing the loan and going oversees on a free if seattle didn't extend the contract.
Excellent! Good to hear that he is being productive down there and I hope he has a lot of it. If Montero wants to see national team time and/or make it to Europe, he needs to kick some serious but during his loan.
in this thread.... https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/millonarios.1947256/page-26 he is receiveng a great support form millos fans!
Freddy has been highly involved. Word must have spread from the border about his presence as he's been marked tight and physically. Had a good battle one vs. one with Yank Abroad Castillo, but ref made a petty foul call on Montero. Let those dudes battle!
Ole Chicago guy Robyao's passing technique has been absurd! Just a frustrating night for Millos. Looking juvenile or apathetic at times. Seeing Montero and Perlaza on the field at the same time is comical.
The final Tijuana 1 Millonarios nil. Xolos Antonio Mohamed's tactical genius on display yet again. His tactics of closing down on Millos players basically shut down all passing channels that could lead to Montero or later in the match Perlaza up top.
