    Monroe waived!

Well, this time it was personal. It had to be. We didn't see anything wrong with her. She was shaky against the Freedom but then again it was her first game. Good luck to her though. A good player who should be picked up by another team. However, getting Emily Burt was a good idea. She is a good player who deserves a spot on a team. She should be a starter for somebody. A good player. Atlanta had too many forwards. We could use another.

29 games for Atlanta: 2 career goals, 7 assists. Time will tell, I guess

I saw Emily Burt play while she was in college at Stanford. She's pretty good and fast! She played with Erin Martin but I thought Martin was much better than her. Where is she(Martin) now? I heard a rumor that she was hurt.

Burt will help the team. She is fearless. Monroe just didn't fit in this year. Someone will probably pick her up. Or she may be a reserve, who knows.

Most of those games were only the last 5-10 mins of games that had already been decided. You cannot judge, one way or the other, by games like that.

I have always felt that she needed time on the field to let her energy wear down her markers. Hopefully she will get that at Philly but I expect she is planed for deep backup again.

She is like the soccer equivalent of Mohammed Ali's left jab: After you are hit by the first you think you can take 10-15 to get in one of yours but when the 10th one hits you you find yourself too weak to deliver one of you own.

She may be a good fit at Philly but she is vertically challenged and that could be a problem.

Her energy level could be a huge asset for the current forwards as she seems very content to do the dirty work and let others take the glory.

With Arrington out someone will have to get the start up front unless we're still doing 1 forward. It seems like we had gone to 2. Is that right?

I agree you can't judge Emily on her playing time at Atlanta.

O, Charge. I will ignore that after your suggestion of Hoda. Martin was invited to train this year but her knee still needs recovering. She wants to come back so look for her next spring.

"Her energy level could be a huge asset for the current forwards as she seems very content to do the dirty work and let others take the glory."

This is good despite Pichon's hustling ability and her tendency to go into the midfield to help out the team. This is good in a forward but it means less time for her upfront where we can use her more.

"If that doesn't work, then try to get Hoda Lattaf from the French NT"

I mean the little thing about Emily. Her stats don't show her worth and most games she didn't play long enough.

Congrats to the Charge on picking up EBurt. I think a lot of teams who didn't jump on picking her up when she went on waivers are going to be sorry once they see exactly what she is capable of. I think EBurt and Pichon are going to be a dangerous combination.

I watched Em play at Stanford, and had the pleasure of working with her when she played in the W-League. She has talent for finding the ball and the back of the net, and she's tougher then her one would think.

I was hoping Ian would bring her home and sign her to the 'Rays, but it wasn't to be. Have fun watching Em's game once she gets into the swing of things with the Charge. She just doesn't stop. Such a fun payer to watch.

besides being a great soccer player, she is an awesome person too. I'm going to miss her, and her game and her personality.

Burt does stylistically offer a similar player to arrington, so that's a good pick-up...

as we saw last eyar, going to 4-5-1 eventually wears out Pichon...

    so give her a partner...

marienette is in fantastic shape this year, but still give her help.

maso de moya does offer some size, and possibly some target ability up top..for a big girl, she has really good mobility...

right now, it's be maso de moya and Pichon up top and I'd bring Burt off the bench for maso de moya.

I'm a little confused why MF was waived. Since Arrington's out for the season, does that not mean there's already a slot available for Burt?

    wusa roster rules are fuzzy...

I don't think anyone really knows what they are...

whta happend when Riise tore her ACL...did carolina add anyone,

    same story with Macmillan...

while I'm at it, the Hochman article is probably the best I've seen in Philly papers...

kind of likes the sentence about Kelly's brother turning 16, and his soccer career ends when he discovered girls and beer....

    "wusa roster rules are fuzzy...'

Understatement of the year. But also like I said before having someone in like Burt will freeze up Pichon up top. She spends too much time in the midfield. And I don't just mean in the last game.

Also take into consideration that in most games Emily only made it into the game in the lost 10 or 15 minutes... she did not get the minutes she deserved but she provided an instant spark everytime she came in making things happen and assisted last year on several game winning goals.

I don't follow the Charge very closely and I just looked at the roster and it looks like Emily was a good pick for the team. While we have a bench full of forwards for the most part it looks like you need some forwards. What are the chances that Burt can start in Arringtons place? Who else is an option for yall?

Didn't Monroe have surgery in the off season and join the team late? I think its a matter of the beat gained a mf/d in callie withers and waived a forward... so philly probably waived a midfielder to try and get some depth up top. I think Arrington and Burt are very similar. I hope Burt gets the time she deserves because 5-10 minutes is not enough... give her time to settle into a game and she is a quality player.

Monroe was finishing her degree at UCLA, so she was a couple weeks late to training camp.

Last year, her role was to defend in midfield, take the other teams best mid out of the match, and she did it very well.

This year, she never got to play that role at all. There's been a basic philosophical change in hoiw the Charge play.

Some of the defensive problems are due to Monroe NOT being out there harrassing the other team. Now, there's NOT as much defensive pressure in midfield, putting more pressure on the Charge back line.

Trina Maso de Moya would be the other forward the Charge would consider, and Alexa Borisjuk, but both are bigger, less mobile forwards.

Krikorian likes to have mobile players, all over the pitch, just NOT at forward.

So I'd expect Burt to get a very good look at playing significant time.

Scasna and Smith, two other potential forwards are both hurt, so Burt might even start several matches.

Maso de Moya has some nice mobility, but played only one year of college soccer.

I've heard some very good things about Burt also. If she gets the minutes to gel with the team she should be a great addition.

Too bad about Arrington though! And, sorry that someone like Monroe has to be dumped. It's tough.

The Monroe move is pissy luck, basically 3 forwards get hurt in Smith, Scasna and Arrington.

So getting some one who could play was needed, and midfield was the only option, since the Charge couldn't afford to cut any defenders.

It appears to me the move was between Misaki and Monroe.

Misaki was playing and Monroe wasn't. When Monroe played in DC, it was in a more offensive role, and that's NOT her game.

    Be very interesting against SJ...

weather is NOT very promising, wind and rain forecast...and the rest of may is supposed to be rainy weather...welcome to scotland ...

a guy I work with, who played at Va tech, and whose wife played at Old Dominion will be bringing a friend to the match of saturday...

the friend played with Thori Bryan at NC state ..

And of course, we all needn't be reminded, this is the return of mandy...

Can't remember - did Thori play at the same time as Charmaine Hooper?

I don't believe Bryan and Hooper were there at the same time.

Bryan is 26 or 27 and I thought Hooper was 32 or 33.

The weather go saturday is suppose to be nasty, wind and rain, so once you cross midfield shoot for goal, wet slippery astrosturf can cause a very ugly match style wise.

    Monroe waived!

Right, right, definite age difference, forgot about that.

BTW - it wasn't mentioned for the DC/Carolina game, but the field conditions were pretty wet there too. Lot's of slipping going on. Hate this weather, makes for some ugly games!

this is the worst spring I can ever remember in Philadelphia.

the year without a spring. straight to summer with 100 degrees and stiffling humdity...

the jet stream has been a sine curve since februrary.

since san jose and the charge would both prefer to play a possession game, conditions might force each to play more directly...

    lots of long ball...

so I guess Pichon and Burt would be the forwards in such a style game...

I'm waiting for Solo to punt once the length of the pitch, and Beene, coming out to far, have th ball skid and bounce over her head into the goal to win it for the Charge.

with all the poor injury luck so far this year, something like that would be a fitting reversal of fortune.
